| Quote: Denver Sun "What about Menzies as head coach? Should have little, if any, financial impact and maybe the players would respond to his highly regarded work ethic. Lack of experience may be seen as a weakness but can things get worse? I do not like commenting on the situation from so far away but listening today it seems things are not improving at all from the last game I saw which was last seasons opener v Giants.'"
Today gave no indications that they are improving, believe me.
But the Menzies option (if it was practicable visa rules-wise) would have financial impact in that he would immediately have to come off the playing staff and retire as a player for us, else his package would still count on the salary cap. And the club would (I believe) not be in a position financially to recruit a replacement (if one were available) since they would need those funds top pay off those who were leaving.

| We were way off the mark, particularly in the first half. Saints were hot and Leon Pryce played as well as I have seen him play.
"There were a lot of things that looked rusty. It wasn't a great performance at all. Maybe it was part of a process we need to go through as a group to get to where we want to get to.
"We weren't at the races. We expected to perform better but there were obviously reasons for that and we need to rectify that."
While admitting it was a tough day at the office for his players, McNamara was quick to praise St Helens for an "electrifying" attacking display.
"We started okay but then Saints hit us with a whirlwind," he added.
"I thought their offensive play at times was electrifying. They played with a lot more intensity with the ball than we did.
"I'd like to think we'll sit here in five days' time with a different situation. We'll be strong and stay together, but quite possibly in the long run this process will make us a better team.
"It was a tough day at the office but we'll look forward to getting back next week

| Quote: Adeybull "I continue to await a practicable and affordable solution from our resident dishonest vulture. Again, his only contribution to the post-match discussion is his same old same old. Pretty sad way to get your fun (his word), I'd say?
Which players are we to sell, or which of the few remaining staff are we to sack, to pay for the replacement and HIS new assistants as well as paying-up the present incumbents' contracts? Or (as I would want to see if the board DID lose patience) ensure he stays at the club in a wider role. If he can finally put some realistic proposals forward in that department, then we could have a reasonable debate.
And did I say "dishonest"? Indeed I did. Because I've yet to meet anyone off here to whom Macca "is beloved", or by who is believed to be the best coach in the competition. What I HAVE met is a decent number of reasonable people who recognise that he's the best coach we currently have, and the only way I can see the club being in any position to fund a replacement of the pedigree and calibre demanded is if the directors personally pay for it. The way the sugar daddies that other clubs are blessed with do. And indeed, maybe if they do lose patience it will have to come to that.
So maybe the likes of ME should make a start by writing to the directors personally, urging them to do just that? Or even having the guts to go tell them to their faces to put their hands in their pockets? Or maybe ME could start a fundraising campaign from the fans to raise the six-figure sum that would be needed. I'm sure they will be all ears.
My big fear is that if the board DO finally lose patience, will they (have to? decide to?) go for a cheap solution? Wire did that with Jimmy, and look what happened. The oft-mentioned Menzies option (if indeed all the visa etc hurdles could be overcome - that might not be one of the lighter challenges) would surely run that risk?'"
Odd that someone who cannot admit to being a complete hypocrite can be so cutting in his abuse of another.
Open your eyes Adey and see that I am not the only one slating him now and maybe take some of your ire that way. Or is it just that your obsession of me precludes you from doing this?
You have defended this dud for long enough and slated me for questioning him for about a similar time. It is just a shame that he is letting you down so badly.
As for starting a whip round to get rid of him???? That would be great but sadly it would be futile given that Mr Hood seems tho think that he is the blue eyed boy. Strange though, that you now use this as an option, about a good year or so after I was slated for saying that we cannot afford to sack him?

| I'm not in the Macca out party yet, but I am very disappointed with that.
Lacklustre, no defence, no effort, and our forwards were running to the St Helens line not at it.
The only players showing any effort for me were Whitehead, Scruton, Langley, Halley & Kearney.
Kopzcak also, but less so, and I still odn't think he's at 100%
What really worries me is that we don't seem to have any tactics, it just looks like they are being chucked on the pitch with not a clue what to do. Saints knew exactly what to do to close down threats from Menzies, Orford (who was dire imo) and Kearney. We couldn't deal with Puletua's runs or Robys zipiness from dummy half.
Benthamwas terrible, but nowhere near as terrible as us. Although how Fozzard gets away with being 20 metres offside everytime Saints kick escapes me.
We can't blame the referee for this one, we were just absolute garbage, that wasn't even NL1 standard. I always thought it would be difficult having to play Saints after an opening home defeat, but I wanted -if nothing else- effort from the players.

I don't care what he thinks about St Helen's right now, I would much rather know what he thinks of the performance tday. Quotes like 'We started Ok' and 'It was a tough day at the office' have been said over and over last year.
What did he learn from last weeks game at Huddersfield ?
At least we were a point up this time last year.

| We are not a rich club as has been said, but i dont think we can afford not to get a new coach, there will be no one watching by the end of the season. Hood should ask him to resign. If i were that poor at my job i would pack it in & find something i'm better at.

| Quote: kevl84 "I'm guessing from the posts above that his solution is to sack him and get someone else in.
Really weird thing is, I heard a rumour that a coach in Oz was interested in taking Macnamara to his team as assistant, with a view to making him the replacement head coach. I'm a bit lost with this one, as I don't think he's shown anything at head coach with Bradford to warrant that interest.
It was always going to be hard for you at the start of this season. A new 6, 7 and 9 surely takes a lot of time to gel together and gel with the rest of the team.'"
The problem today was that its the whole team that needs to gel together, because none of them had a bloody clue today and our defence was shocking.

| I'll give McNamara his due. He's done a great job turning the junior player development side of the club round. However, he is tactically lacking as well as seemingly unable to motivate a side to win.
As such, I think it might be sensible to move him upstairs. Put him in a Director of Rugby role. Let him continue his good work with bringing in young players and let the club get in a more experienced coach who can get the team performing to the level the players we've got should be achieving.
After all, Mr Hood said that success this year would be 1 final and a top 4 finish. Even adding his footnote about injuries, which really we've not got at the moment as the only players out are Platt and Sculthorpe and neither of them could be considered a starting player, we're not on course for that top 4 finish or playing like we did today in with a cat in hells chance of a final

| We are bottom, I know the league table doesn't mean much at this stage, but last is somewhere I never want to see my club. There needs to be a big change by next week in front of the sky cameras at home.

| Getting sick of McNamara's excuses and him playing the same tactics week in week out however I doubt that Hood would sack him or that McNamara would leave us, fingers crossed Hood does not offer him a new contract at the end of the season!

| Hood is not strong enough... He is head of the club and like any business is responsible for ensuring it is operating to it's full potential. lose against Cas and the pressure will be on.

| Quote: mystic eddie "more disingenuous evasion and downright lies'"
Just for once, can you cut out your lies and downright dishonesty? Read what I wrote, will you?
Since I have come to realise you seem to be of only limited understanding, let me try and make it very, very simple for you:
M y . i s s u e . w i t h . y o u . i s . n o t - a n d . n e v e r . w a s - t h a t . y o u . w a n t . M c N a m a r a . o u t. I t . i s . t h a t . y o u . o n l y . e v e r . c r i t i c i s e . a n d . n e v e r . e v e r . p r o p o s e . a n y . p r a c t i c a b l e . a l t e r n a t i v e , a n d . g o . m i s s i n g . w h e n . w e . w i n . a n d . f e w . w i l l . r a l l y . t o . y o u r . o b s e s s i o n , b u t . a r e . v e r y . m u c h . i n . e v i d e n c e . w h e n . w e d o . n o t.
Can I make that any more clear?
There are plenty others on here who hold similar views to you. The difference is, most of those have some idea what they are talking about regarding what is wrong (in their view) with the coaching, and in the main make reasonable attempt to propose or at least discuss reasoned alternatives. I can very much respect them and their views, for those reasons, and regularly acknowledge that in their number are some few who know far more about the game than I ever will. Equally, there may be some off-field matters where I might just have a degree of knowledge relevant to the discussion.
But you do not fall into that category. And for that reason - and for your consistent disingenuous dishonesty and evading the issues put to you (as you do yet again above); and for your seeming delight in coming in after the battle and knifing the wounded; and for seemingly taking delight in every misfortune to befall the team or the club provided, in your mind it, makes you look like you were right all along; for those reasons, I can never respect you or your posts.
Oh, and it was the likes of me that consistently pointed out that the club would likely find it very difficult financially to replace the coaching staff in the middle of contracts - not you. It was YOU who consistently slated the likes of me for saying that. So, I say again, lets have a bit of honesty from you for a change?
Sorry everyone else, but at least you guys are expressing your views for all the right reasons.

| What was Macnamara's game plan today?
Have the players done any work on defence in the last week?
I'm not sure how anyone can defend Mac after that. I can see already exactly how this season is going to go unless something changes. And before anyone says anything....no I don't have a solution. But it is becoming more and more apparent that it is not Macnamara.
