As per BB's note, its no secret that as soon as you learn the maps, you're scores improve. Also you need to develop a style but hopefully not one that involves hiding in corners

anyone else having problems with modern warfare on xbox? worked fine for a couple of days, now wont let me into multiplayer or campaign with disc read errors, strangely special ops works fine. wont install to hd either, fails on 48%. according to net theres a bad batch of discs going round. have to wait till weekend to get it swapped

Depends whether you will mainly be playing solo or online. Of the 2, COD:MW is better for solo play as there are more individual missions than MW2. Both are excellent online. Basically, any of the CODs will do.
