Does it count on the salary cap if you are paid not to play? I presume Hicks might have been willing to 'retire' for the equivalent of a years pay, presuming that was how long he had on his contract.

if it was paid through the books then it would count towards salary cap. Hypothetically Im sure mr moran could find a way of paying hicks outside the club structure.

| Am pretty sure Hicks announced his retirement towards back end of season.
I just wonder whether we maybe in for Bridge? Can play stand off, goal kicker, home grown etc

Nope. He was originally intending to retire but signed a new 1 year deal for this season. They then gave him the Number 34 shirt when they announced the squad numbers (apparently had some personal significance). Only announced that he'd reconsidered and decided to retire after all today.

He's not 34 yrs old next year by any chance is he?
I wear 42 for the same reasons and in the hope that the squad will need a lot of injuries before I'll be required to play. I must admit I was beginning to worry last year, but Macca never gave me the nod.

He is indeed.
You know, when they announced it, I'm sure I checked that and found he was younger. I must be going senile....

| If Warrington are right up against the cap, one wonders whether now would be a good time to see if we can prise a new No6 from them?
And, whaddya know they have a couple that we might target - namely Chris Bridge and Ritchie Myler
Hmmmmm

| As Myler is a bit of a poster boy given the protracted transfer saga before his move, I'd not expect wire to let go of him.
Bridge, however, I believe comes under the homegrown rule for us? He did start with us as a 6 and he always seems to have a good game against us.

| bridge came to us from huddersfield, not entirely sure he managed the 3 years before 21 but would be an interesting option.
Although how would bridge go with being 6 this year and potentially moved back to centre if we signed a more illustrious ooc 6 next year?
Although initially myler seems more out of the picture - king, atkins, monaghan strikes a little as the top 3 centres and briers likely to be the 6 bridge may feel forced out. Unless he has matured a lot he never had the most patience. Also hodgson at full back so he could not slot in there.......
