| It was as I've been saying. The people of Bradford did not want the EDL here.
I'm proud of the people who did not lower themselves to the EDL's level

| One thing I wasn't too chuffed about was seeing one of the EDL Protestors in a photo, wearing a Bulls shirt.

I was disappointed in the T&A's reporting of the event, which was incredibly biased when I was reading it yesterday. Other more independent people who were there painted a slightly different story.
There was a not very nice moment when one of those reporters stated that an EDL protestor was being treated for a head wound. Shortly after, I was more amused to find out it was because he'd been hit by a brick from another EDL protestor.

| I haven't been blown up by an Islamic extremist today so I guess the EDL must have done their job and saved us?

Nice. There's one that I hope doesn't make the pledge for next year.

| According to someone who was there, EDL protestors were heard chanting "Allah is a paedo" and "We love the floods".
How they try to pretend they're not just a bunch of racists, I'm not sure.....

I think, that given the month long campaign to prevent the march, the T&A's attitude was already determined before any of the action. Not that I think it was really wrong to be fair, especially given the odious types at the extremes of both points of view, there were hardly going to be any positive aspects to allowing them to march through the city.
Of course the opposing view is that they should be allowed to put their views across, which I'm far from against, since it's only when their views are expressed, that they can be opposed. Whatever the views, of either, they shouldn't be allowed to disrupt the life of the city. Speaking of which, how come after being told to go about our normal business on Saturday, when I arrived at the Corn Dolly, did I find it shut?

That was because, I believe, the police withdrew all licences within the city for the duration of yesterday

Not correct, the pubs ws advised to shut and most did but not all.
I was there as i work in the city centre and was proud that the people of bradford behaved very very well.Couple of flashpoints that dint amount to anything.
Had to lol when the EDL guy at the back threw the smoke bomb and it dint even get outta the edl area !!
Sad pathetic clowns and the police did well.

Bit biased to be fair but all in all a successfull operation even if the day was ruined for bussiness in the city centre.

| Glad to see bradfordians en masse ignore the lot of them because they are a bunch of cranks. TBH I'm not that impressed with UAF either I agree with their view point but they to me seem like a slightly less repugnant than the EDL bunch of wierdos as well.
The only reason the EDL and UAF were in Bradford yesterday is because of stereotypes why can't have their next demo in Truro or Guildford?

The UAF at times were presented as saints and party folk by yesterday's reports, which is part of what I was referring to in the press bias. Completely different to what I was told from a couple of folk who were there, who said similar to you, with them all as bad as each other.

They say it wasn't a counter demo yesterday which begs the question why were they there at the same time as the EDL?
The EDL are a bunch of old school football hooligans and NF boot boys who lost their power in those worlds so set up the EDL. UAF hide behind a banner of respectability claiming to be anti-fascist etc. but are just up for a fight. The real people of Bradford just got on with their everday lives and i think showed themselves to be great people. The 2001 riots to me were about a bunch of bored young men with poor prospects and living on the fringes of society wound up by left wing, sandal wearing pratts from outside of the city. They claimed the NF were there but the incident in Broadway was actually the fault of ointment drinking in a pub. Some of them may have been NF members but that was coincidence. In the end a load of young lads ended up with long prison sentences and the Anti Nazi League Riot instigators went back to their nice middle class lives in the home counties with a smug sense of self satisfaction that they'd helped save the simple folk of Bradford from themselves. Cheers!
Best thing to do is ignore the political cranks, thugs and weirdos and get on with life.
