| Sykes needs to work on his kicking (or Orford)
Also, in the run up to Giants' first try there was an incorrect play the ball and a forward pass. .
Hope that doeesn't set the way for the whole season in terms of refereeing decisions.
Btw i'm not blaming our loss on that, we weren't good enough anyway.

| Not sure if already posted but Macca's Comment ( sounds a lot like last year ) :
Bradford coach Steve McNamara was 'bitterly disappointed' with his side's showing.
The mood in the Bulls camp was one of optimism ahead of the game following the arrivals of Matt Orford, Brett Kearney, Heath L'Estrange and Glenn Hall.
But McNamara admitted his side still have plenty of work to do.
"I thought we probably missed an opportunity in some regards," he said.
"I thought Huddersfield were good in certain areas - defensively - and we had to work very hard to score some points there.
"After starting the game brightly you find yourself 16-0 down. There were some things in that first half that by our own admission were unacceptable.
"We were made to pay the price, we were chasing the game after that."
McNamara added: "We were looking for a bright start and it wasn't meant to be.
"We have got 26 more rounds of the competition to go and plenty of games left to go and win.
"Another week down the track and I think we'll be a little bit more polished."

I think that's fair comment tbh.
He didn't use last season's "There were plenty of positives and the decisions weren't in our favour".

| Quote: Ewwenorfolk "Nothing like having faith and confidence!
It's the first match FFS, we have a new spine of the team basically, give it time.
Btw, would you rather us be posting cricket scores now or in august/september/october?'"
I have faith and I have confidence and I also have a realistic sense of what this team is likley to achieve and I honestly thought we should have murdered Giants tonight. They are average, we just throw knack all at them.
Spine of the team or not, it's not the first match and it's not the first time they have played alongside each other - they do that five days a week. Not to mention that the two most important positions on the field are supposed to know each others game inside out. They played like they'd never even met each other.
I'd rather us get off to a good start instead of leaving it till the last minute and finding out it's to late, you know, kind of like last year?
But anyway, it was a very poor performance and I hope it doesn't continue.

Thats unfair to the Giants, they have recruited well on top of a good season, and they have the best defence in the league.
I agree it was a poor performance, but we will improve -i have no doubt in that- and you can't read too much into the first game.

I don't. They're a team of journeymen who will achieve an average position.
Well I hope you a correct. But what you can read into this game is we are long way from being upto scratch.

| I agree with Ewwen here, expecting a fully polished performance in the first game of the season when the team's changed massively since last season is a bit rediculous. Is it really that surprising that the team played a little like they'd not been together that long at times tonight? I could have sworn that tonight was only the second match Orford had played for Bradford.
Hudds were quality tonight, perhaps you were watching a different game.

| Quote: Stul "I was quite encouraged. For long spells we looked the better side and made very good metres up the middle and we won a lot of collisions. In large parts our defence was excellent and much more aggressive than last year.
The problems were the errors and the lack of options in attack. It is not good enough to buy two excellent halves and then say
That sums the performance up for me too. We played a very good organised side tonight and I think I predicted this score last week I am encouraged with that performance and know that things will improve as thr season progresses.
People expect too much too soon!

I wasn't expecting a polished performance by any means, I knew that wasn't going to come. I wanted to see a team that was up for a fight and not the bunch of useless twassaks we've seen for the past 2 years. That's all.
Orfords second game or not, the majority of that team played together last season and do you know what we saw? Exactly the same as we saw last season.
Hudds were ordinary, which kind of puts it into perspective just whereabouts we were.
Anyhow, theres always next week to put it right, who do we play again?

| Its also worth noting that we improved alot in the second half. We were maybe a little over excited and we calmed down in the second half, and only conceded 1 in the second 40.
I'm not concerned yet, and as long as we play well against Saints at home then I still have no problems.

| I expected a narrow Bulls loss, but with a load of positives. I HOPED for a win, although come on...against team #3 last year, strengthened even more this year, with no money worries and spending to the cap, at home and without a whole new set-up at 6,7 & 9 it was always going to be a big ask!
In the event, we managed to stop what could have been a landslide, albeit with help from their indiscipline and an uncharacteristically-benign Ganson and vidref. And although Hudds comprehensively outplayed us in ever other department I'm actually taking the only 4 tries to 3 result as indicating what we might be able to do when the team gels better. I fear some people expect a bit much too soon?
End of the day, Hudds' defence was outstanding, and by contrast we were caught badly exposed for two well-crafted but ultimately soft tries. But its early days, and hopefully they will learn a lot from what went wrong tonight. In fact, I am sure they will. After all, they've only had the HKR game to get experience in how to play off Orford?
And as for our much-slated 3/4 line, where only Nero was (half)-rated by so many observers? Well all bar Nero seemed to have pretty good games tonight, I thought (barring Reardon twice in no-man's land but left exposed by the others in Nathan Graham style)?
Very disappointed - yes. Dispirited and downhearted - nope.
ps. I was spot on about ME, wasn't I?

Spot on Adey, especially that last bit, it's early days and I'm still very optimistic about this season.
