That's very true, BB. The concept of the 'leadership group', formed by the senior players, has been a feature for a number of years under a succession of coaches. I can't see any reason that it would be ended, in any case it would exist, in an informal sense, at every club I'd guess. Maybe, when there is no single dominant personality at the club, that is what happens naturally, whoever is named as skipper. In any case, very often the 'dominant personality' is the last one you'd want to be in charge anyway..

IIRC Jimmy said at the MEMBERS ONLY forum that it was a clear choice from the first round of training as to who would be captain. Thats all I ask for, rather than be selected for the number of SL games played or games played for us or some other variable unrelated to leadership. Its the one with the bigger picture on his radar screen and the ability to communicate it to the rest of the team gets my vote.

Well that's certainly out of left field. Wouldn't have thought walker was even guaranteed a spot every week tbh.

That's my only negative too, to be honest. It'll be interesting to know who the vice is.

I can just about stomach Walker being used as a prop, but he should not be anywhere near the starting 17 as a 2nd rower, loose forward or - god forbid - a centre.

Every year Walker has been at the club I've expected him to only be used as a backup, and every year he's ended up playing almost every game. I suppose it was silly of me to think that this year would be any different.

I expect Walker to figure in the backrow most weeks then by the sound of it.

There's a lot of competition for places there. We need a few old heads on the field. I can see the rationale. I just wonder if he'll be good enough to warrant a place in the 13 every week on merit.
