| They can if an agreement is reached with Saints. If they are happy to release him to get someone else his contract could be cancelled by mutual consent couldnt it?
Unlikely i know but if both sides are keen to do a deal for its own reasons, anything can happen

| Can't see Saints letting Leon Pryce walk cheaply, we are more likely to get him back next year...

| Regarding home grown rules for 2011; rlhttps://www.superleague.co.uk/page.php?id
CLUB TRAINED PLAYER RULE
engage Super League XIII is likely to have the most club trained players taking part in the competition for nearly five years thanks to a new rule introduced for 2008.
The new ‘club trained player’ rule stipulates that each club must have at least five players who are aged under 21 years or are graduates from their own academy system in their 25 man first team squad during 2008.
The table below shows how these figures will increase between now and 2011.
Year..............................2011
Home-Grown Players.........8
UK-trained players............12
Overseas trained players....5
so, for 2011 [iat the moment [/iI would suggest;
Home grown players;12
Halley, Sykes, Langley, Whitehead, Koppy, Donaldson, Finigan, Addy, Southenwood, Olibison, Crossley, Wardle,
UK trained players; 8
Scruton, Lynch, Godwin, Platt, Sculthorpe, Walker, Aincough, (?) Elima (quota exception?)
Overseas trained; 4
L'estrange, Hall, Orford, Kearney, (room for one signing or retain Menzies)
Outside of the 25 at the moment but still with the club for 2011 at the moment, with a 2010 squad number (some might be released some retained outside the 25icon_wink.gif
Worrincy, Crookes, Sherriffe, Reardon, O'Brien, T Burgess, G Burgess, Tate,
This gives us a 25 man first team squad that satisfies the rules, my reading of them is that the 12 uk trained players can be home grown, so we need 20 home grown/uk trained a minimum of 8 of which are "home grown". Correct me if Im wrong. I reckon we will have 12 home grown at least. There will be some movement in and out of the 25 squad obviously as and when.

And the bold bit is where we are losing ground on the top sides.
Where as Leeds, Wigan, Saints keep their best youngsters (in the main) we have lost some of ours - ala, Fielden, Peacock, Leon, Burgess, Atkins, Bridge.
I know these players all left for varying reasons and stages of development, but this doesn't seem to happen as much with the other sides. I think we may have just realised that homegrown players (especially the top ones) are worth more to us than we previously realised.

Exactly, which is the crux of it. And why we have shifted the emphasis to this in the last couple of years, but we're playing catch up now in a game of junior developement where there are no guarentees as to what you produce.

If this season's 25 went by squad number order, Crookes and Andy Tate must also have been included, while Finigan, Addy, Crossley and Wardle would not have been. Crookes is contracted for 2011, and after making the first team for the last couple of games seems unlikely to drop out of the 25, but I could see Tate dropping out.
Additionally, we have not yet heard of new contracts for Kopczak, Addy, Crossley and Wardle. I would expect most of them still to be here, but not necessarily all. I would expect to have 11 or 12 homegrown players in the 25, who would be OR Crossley, Crookes (and Wardle, if we have 12). IF we were to re-sign a homegrown ex-player, we might have to re-think who is in & who is out.
Quote: Duckman "UK trained players; 8
Scruton, Lynch, Godwin, Platt, Sculthorpe, Walker, Ainscough, (?) Elima (quota exception?)'"
Agreed - but if Dowes arrives, I would expect it means Sculthorpe is going. Elima is Federation trained whichever way you look at it, because he started out with Cas & Wakefield, and UK & France will be classed as the same federation. We may see at least one other Fed-trained back.
Quote: Duckman "Overseas trained; 4

'"
Agreed.
Quote: Duckman "Outside of the 25 at the moment but still with the club for 2011 at the moment, with a 2010 squad number (some might be released some retained outside the 25icon_wink.gif

See above about Crookes. Of the rest, only the Burgesses and Tate are publicly announced as contracted.

May be only 11 home grown, but will certainly be comfortably more than 8.

| Do the youngsters have to be included in your 25 man squad or is it like the Premiership where you can play under 21's not included in 25?

And I think we will see some of these players back as the club they will be most valuable to would be us. Maybe not a young marquee player like Atkins but some of the older ones like Leon or Stu.
Cheers DM for the breakdown, I probably should have read that

| meli would have been a waste of a signing imo...he may be the rohbust woinger that les was but he is not a patch on les
his defensive and positional play is awful and like some one said he has this thinkg about dropping the ball
ainscough is better bacause he is 10 years or so younger and will want a lot less money
