He failed to take up the option on a second year at Souths, so is out of contract.

If this is true it means either Herbert or Ah Van are not getting a new deal. If we are going to let either of those two players go, I had hoped it would have been for someone in the same position.

Why do we need another prop, unless there is something we don't know about one of the ones we've got?

IMO the five main props we have have got the potential to be a pretty solid group going into 2012. Lynch, Hargreaves and Scruton are solid, and Kopczak and Burgess will only get better.

So, IF we are going after this guy, it really does suggest that one of the current bunch is going to be on his bike.

Also using a precious quota spot on a position we have plenty of quality in doesn't seem very sensible to me. He's going to be replacing either Herbert or Ah Van, and we certainly can't afford to not replace Herbert with someone else.

i think if this is true could be ah van going as to be honest hes been too hit or miss for me and we have a good centre coming in next season plus on wing we have raynor, crookes and also think ainy could get a new deal plus have finingan as well so plenty of wingers plus if rumours of us trying to sign a scrum half are true think herbert could also be on his way.and may be herbert doesnt want to say as he only signed a one year deal to see if he settled over here.

do think this could signal end for crossley as would have 6 class props then and think lynch has only one more year on his deal and get the feeling hed like to finish his career at cas

the problem this year is that there is no bsterd in the pack, and scruts lynch and hargreaves have only been solid. When playing, Ross has been better than any of our props by a long way, so I would like the signing. imo, hargreaves needs to improve next year or be released as he hasnt added anything we cant get from the others.

wouldnt mind the signing as such. Its using one off the quota spots on a position we can either generate from within or recruit from within SL for that I dont agree with.

Bulls Media (Duffy?) has just tweeted that there will be an announcement tomorrow morning at 7am, so I suspect we may know a little more about our squad for next season soon enough...

I hope it's Ross. Not from a playing perspective - I'd just feel like I'd really arrived in terms of this board.

He's a good prop. A bit of experience is what we need.

More chance of us winning the Grand Final from 8th than Ross ever showing his face at Odsal.

The thing is, how hungry for success would a 31 year old moving to the other side of the world be?

Also, given his age, I think it'd raise some eyebrows if he was given more than 1 year and with that why would a player of his age want to come for less than 2 years?

And besides, as others have pointed out we don't really need another prop for next year given that we've got Lynch, Scruton, Hargreaves, Koppy, Burgess and Crossley.

Personally I'd prefer us to be using our spare quota spot on a back

Its a fair point. I guess a response to that might be "maybe, just maybe, as hungry as Beaver, Morro, Brad McKay, Penguin...?"

What we would give for one such as those now?

He may be experienced, being 31 but he is not a good prop. He is playing because Souths have injuries otherwise he wouldn't make the team. He is an absolute punching bag at NRL level. He needs to retire, I wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy. Bulls can do better than Ben Ross IMO
