I entirely agree that Mumby is/was the best in a Northern shirt, certainly in the 70s/80s.
Hanley was without a doubt the best player (overall) in the modern era, in his career at Bradford Wigan Australia and Leeds.
There are lots of hard workers, Fairbanks, Forsythe,, Seaborne, Thompson, Casey, Rathbone Grayshon, Medley, (Neil Fox was with us twice!).....and obviously lots more in the Super League era especially people like Menzies and Forshaw.
For class, Robbie and Henry Paul are up there but so were Walford, A. Redfern, Pendlebury and Nigel Stephenson. Our elders would say, Foster, Batten, J Philllips, Ward, Whitcomb (signed with a World Record fee).
In the end Trevor Foster is/was Bradford Northern/Bulls, and deserves all our absolute respect, but as player, I am not sure the footage as evidence is there. We can only go on word of mouth. He coached me as a 14 year old at Police Boys and was clearly an amazing guy on and off the park .
Mumby and JT, taught me how to tackle, through mid/the late 70s, (and came to see me in hospital in 1979 with JT and Keith Bridges)....so clearly I have to go with Mumby overall in a RedAmber & Black shirt. I still have the one they brought me.
Mumby's defence is still the best I have seen, (with only Radlinski getting close). He could attack too with his 'dip' under the tackle move. The fact that George Fairborn got the GB shirt in front of Mumby still bugs me!
Incidentally I was looking for some of his scything tackles particularly on his left side. I found this. Interesting stuff.

I'm getting the (excellent) Theresa May rap. I was expecting Sir Keith to enter stage left and take her out, but sadly not.
Do you have the right link?

| Can't believe Lesley has been included but Shontayne's been omitted.

| I'd have had Naylor in there simply for the fact he had Senior in his back pocket everytime we played them

Perhaps not for long, (in terms of his time at the top) but I agreed when I heard Jiffy say' Without a doubt, Tevita Vailkona is the best winger in the world in either code.!.

| Hard to disagree with the top 4 but it is a very subjective list. I'm a bit surprised that Fielden, Peacock, Newlove and Sam Burgess didn't get into the 20 though.

| I'm surprised Peacock didn't feature and that Jeff Greyshon didn't figure more highly, though I suppose not that many around today would have seen Big Jeff. He had a similar career to JP, to be fair; both started in the second row and moved up to prop when they'd slowed down a bit, both were imperious in when their pomp, bursting tackles, getting out 'impossible' off-loads when surrounded by tacklers and both were simply magnificent.

| I agree with what your saying bulliac, and probably all the people who voted would never have seen Trevor foster play but he is on there, I think it should be renamed as to what they did for the club, like I said in a earlier post, I disagreed that Hanley should be on because he wasn’t here long enough

You may be correct on Hanley, except to say he was part of the regeneration that told Bradford that it COULD produce some of the best. In his short time, both before and after being lodged by her Majesty, he was one of few people whom we would should about, usually, 'Give it to Ellery' and more often than not he did the business, hence his move to Wigan. After he left it took a few years to start producing again. Clearly Bradford has and continues to produce, some of the best. Once again we have to learn again, how to keep them, as clubs like Sts and Wigan do.

| Ellery was simply unbelievable as a player. He could do things no one else ever could. Skills wise and in doing those 'impossible' plays the nearest modern equivalent was probably Rangi Chase, though he was never quite the complete player that Ellery was. That said, it was a different game in played in different times. Ellery truly was 'worth the admission money on his own'.

I agree. I still try to coach some of the things that Hanley did. Although of course some of it was simple physical ability learned over thousands of hours of practice.
My favourite and it's so simple; not many refs were bright enough to pick up on it. Hanley would watch the ball go say from the centre of the park out to the right say from the half way, he would track ahead, walk/jog quietly 15/20meters ahead of the ball, way offside, as the ref looks to his left and at the defence, not seeing Hanley ahead of the ball, He worked out that the breaking centre/2nd row would, on the 4th tackle on the 25ish and need an inside ball. Hanley would already be way ahead of his other players, and be there before anyone else. The Refs hardly ever picked up on it.
Brilliant, but simple. He was not just an amazing physical player, he was a brilliant, patient, thinker and tactician, like Edwards. (another we missed off the list!)

| Not saying Ellery should be No 1 in the list, but the one piece of action from 40 years of watching Bradford that I can still recall in every detail is his try at the semi-final where he touched down in the corner just below where we were sitting. Classic
