| Question is, do you play our best 17 or leave out a few like Mullaney/Fergie who seem to pick up injuries? I can't see too many being left out but I don't see much point risking a key player like Mullaney unnecessarily.

| Well Jimmy's philosophy up until now has always been to play his strongest side available. I wouldn't expect him to change tact now.

| Has his missis had the baby yet? Every one was concerned it might have been last weekend.

As a parent of five children, I find it very strange that it has become acceptable that top sportsmen seem to be now able to take as much time off from their job on the off chance that their wife / partner might just happen to give birth at the worst moment. From my experience, babies can come anytime within a two to three week window. Why not name him in the squad and if she happens to go into labour at 2.00 pm on Saturday, then fair enough.
If he's injured, that's one thing - but leaving him out of a 19 man squad because his wife's waters might break on Saturday afternoon is a poor excuse IMO.
Am I being unsympathetic?

Who knows, but if she hasn't it's not something she'd appreciate being in the public domain. Sounds like he has trained all week though which is encouraging on the injury front. As others have said, I wouldn't be totally shocked to see him play on Sat.

Possibly but more likely jumping to conclusions unless you've seen it stated by somewhere credible that he's not playing for the above reasons.

I don't know if Ross from the T&A is 'credible', but he said something last week to the effect that 'Gaskell might not play anyway (even if fit) against Leigh due to the impending birth of his child'

Well I can't recall the tweet but would it not just mean his baby was due round about that date so he could well be missing for personal reasons.
Gaskell is in the 19 anyway now.

No, you're being wrong. He didn't play due to not quite being fit. Nothing to do with babies. As red pointed out above, Lowes said "Lowes' post match interview said they were training with him during the week expecting him to play but he didn't quite make it".
I suppose it might have been possible that if his missus had gone into labour on matchday, then he might not have played but that's just speculation, and her pregnancy was unrelated to his absence, so can we give the lad a break?
