Wasn't there so don't know the facts. Surprised though that we're adopting such a combative approach in advance of the committee meeting.

Presumably because all the other personal vendettas against the club have failed.

Whether they do or they don't, you must confess it's a bit weird accusing such a low-key small-crowd open-air venue of chaos, lack of control and drunkenness when there are not many in attendance, and where the limited bars are so busy people are queuing for over an hour, and where there has been not report whatsoever of a single problem.

I would suggest the officers in charge of policing this event may not yet be quite ready to take charge of Glastonbury and its 30-odd bars and million punters.

Quote: tigertot "It smacks of PC Dawson trying very hard to impress someone to me.'"

So, a brief report on the rllicensing reviewrl that took place yesterday.

Sounds like the Panel weren't overly impressed with the allegations, since
Quote: tigertot "The panel made two changes to OK Bulls’ outdoor events licence. The first was to firm-up the wording to specify that when on duty, personal licence holders should be identifiable and working where drinks were being sold.

The second was to have an event management plan approved by the panel before its next concert.'"

I remain uneasy at PC Dawson's attitude to this.
First, she said that the concert overran by eight minutes, she said Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney had the plug pulled on them when they over-ran at a concert in London last year, and that this should also have happened at Odsal. This, to me, says it all. She is referring to the 2012 concert in Hyde Park, where 80,000 people were watching Springsteen and McCartney duetting when the organisers pulled the plug mid-song so as not to break the licence curfew. Now, anyone who has ever been to a concert knows that punctuality and strict timekeeping/scheduling really isn't what concerts , especially rock concerts, are all about, and so it was a mystery to me why the organisers didn't just let the show, within reason, finish after a belated encore or two. But obviously they must have been given the hard word by council jobsworths and feared for their future concerts, and were so fearful that they took this absurd step.

What's worrying is that most people would just shake their heads in bewilderment at the lack of any in-built common sense leeway, PC Jones thinks orders is orders, and eight minutes more Rick Astley than licenced is a heinous hanging offence. Which in fairness it probably is, but not for the reasons stated. Now, I would agree that serving alcohol beyond the permitted minute can't be allowed, but letting the performer take a few more minutes to finish the show, which is running generally within 1% or so of on time?? I and the zealous officer will have to disagree.

It may have happened in hyde Park, but it doesn't happen in most places across the globe, and such petty officialdom and jobsworth attitudes are to be deprectaed, not applauded. By doing this, the local authority in London, and on a wider note, in the eyes of the world the UK, were made a laughing stock. After the event, Boris Johnson said
Quote: tigertot ""‘It sounds to me like an excessively efficacious decision.
‘If they'd have called me, my answer would have been for them to jam in the name of the Lord!"'"

Quote: tigertot "Stevie Van Zandt, who plays guitar in Springsteen's E-Street Band, put it most succinctly.
Taking to Twitter, he said
'"

Then, referring to the "chaos" in the Marquee bar, she said "She saidno injuries, no evictions and crucially no complaints from residents.

PC Dawson has been rlin the news againrl, this time she's on the case of street vendors at Valley Parade, who from yesterday are now banned within the area between Midland Road, Hamm Strasse, Queens Road and Manningham Lane.

The reasons she wanted this wereShe said local takeaways had seen business drop as a result, and the congestion caused by traders’ vans compromised the safety of spectators.'"

Now, I don't attend City games, but must confess I have never heard of an example of a speccy being injured due to this "compromising of safety". I do work nearby, and have seen the guy selling scarves and hats on Manningham Lane, and the food van that sets up near Harrisons Electrical. I didn't see either of them as presenting any safety problem whatsoever. People wanting a burger seemed to just form a short queue, and there's plenty of room for it.

However, I may be missing something, so maybe some of you who are regular attenders can tell me whether you have reason to believe safety has been compromised?

The other point - "local takeaways have seen business drop" - is that the business of the police licensing officer? Also, what evidence is there of this? Have the police gathered evidence? And if so, for what reason? I find it hard to believe. There are a number of fast food outlets along Manningham Lane and I will take some persuading that when City are playing, their business "DROPS". They are look packed out to me. Some - eg a sandwich shop - open specially for City games. How is that a "drop"?

If I had a takeaway on a popular approach to VP, and saw my business "drop" on matchdays, I would feel duty bound to shoot myself as a disgrace to business.
