Quote: Heritage "As far as I can see on a quick look in Nigel's book there were only 3 Sunday home wins from the first Sunday game in 1967 up to the end of the 1969/70 season and these were 24th November 1968 a 15-10 home win against Bramley, February 22nd 1970 a 14-4 win against Barrow and 15th March 1970 a 10-9 win against Hull.'"

Well if was any of those it would be the Bramley match, because it was definitely earlier than 1970

Thanks for looking anyway, my memory is obviously going with extreme old age eusa_boohoo.gif

Just because you don't make it clear, and simply so as to save wasting the time of 50% of the human race, are you as gay as your pic looks? icon_mrgreen.gif

Saints were very average through large parts of the 80s.

Here is mine, and I would love to know the result..I've forgotten it...about 1967...Odsal..I think it was either Rochdale or Huyton? and the only clue I can remember...Albert Halsall played for the opposition. He was the biggest bloke I ever saw..ever !!! ten foot tall and ten foot wide icon_biggrin.gif and after the match, he bought me an orange juice and my dad a drink...We had a prop (10?) and I've always wanted to know his name..not tall, wore glasses when not playing (obviously) Lets see if this lot can get the grey matter moving. icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

We didn't play Rochdale or Huyton at home in 1967 or 1968 but in 1969 we played two pre season games, one against Huyton winning 36-8 and the Joe Phillips Memorial Trophy game against Rochdale winning 26-10. Albert Halsall won the Harry Sunderland Trophy in 1966 playing for Saints and scoring 3 tries in the Championship Final. Sadly he passed away last August aged 69.
Our regular number 10 in those days was David Hill, but we also had Peter Goddard and occasionally Frank Foster or Laurie Hinchcliffe. Can't remember if David, Peter or Laurie wore glasses off the field.

Albert Halsall played for St Helens from 1966 until 1970 when he went to Swinton. You might be getting St Helens and Huyton mixed up - it is easily done!

However...we hardly played St Helens in those days due to the regional way in which fixtures were organised. We did play them on 22/4/67 at home in a Championship Playoff match. We won 15-8 but Albert wasn't playing. The next we played Saints was not until 7/2/70 when we travelled to Knowsley Road in a Challenge Cup tie only to get beat 3 - 16 - Albert was at number 10 in that match.

Albert left Saints later in 1970 to play for Swinton. Before joining Saints he played for Salford.

David Hill seems to fit the description of prop. I'll let you ask him if he needs glasses!

So were Manchester United. I think it's a matter of relativity, and their average is a bit (a bit icon_lol.gif ) better than most other clubs.
