The UAF at times were presented as saints and party folk by yesterday's reports, which is part of what I was referring to in the press bias. Completely different to what I was told from a couple of folk who were there, who said similar to you, with them all as bad as each other.

They say it wasn't a counter demo yesterday which begs the question why were they there at the same time as the EDL?

The EDL are a bunch of old school football hooligans and NF boot boys who lost their power in those worlds so set up the EDL. UAF hide behind a banner of respectability claiming to be anti-fascist etc. but are just up for a fight. The real people of Bradford just got on with their everday lives and i think showed themselves to be great people. The 2001 riots to me were about a bunch of bored young men with poor prospects and living on the fringes of society wound up by left wing, sandal wearing pratts from outside of the city. They claimed the NF were there but the incident in Broadway was actually the fault of ointment drinking in a pub. Some of them may have been NF members but that was coincidence. In the end a load of young lads ended up with long prison sentences and the Anti Nazi League Riot instigators went back to their nice middle class lives in the home counties with a smug sense of self satisfaction that they'd helped save the simple folk of Bradford from themselves. Best thing to do is ignore the political cranks, thugs and weirdos and get on with life.

A totally biased report in my opinion and if I began to defend the EDL or any right wing organisation for that matter or expressed my concerns about the future of this country under greater islamic influence I will be shouted down as a racist. So keep the platform to yourselves guys and I just hope you're sure you will leave our children a truly peaceful,happy and prosperous country and able to enjoy the same freedom and equality as us!

What sort of greater Islamic influence would that be? These right-wing groups are constantly trying to frighten people to believe what they say by using an Islamic boggyman, very similar to how the Nazi's demonized the Jews. A lot of the arguments put forward by right-wing groups tend to show a lack of understanding as to how the country and the government actually works.

There can never be any open debate about about the threat to this country by the followers of Islam because to do so always attracts threats and insults. I'm probably better keeping my counsel but firmly believe i'm with the silent majority who neither voted for or wanted a multicultural society!
The actions of the EDL are misguided and only attract the idiots I agree but where were the media petitions and the UAF/TUC/CHURCH ORGANISATIONS/COUNCILLORS AND PEACE GROUPS when our armed forces were being abused by muslim extremists?

While the commentary in the papers about the EDL has been generally pretty accurate, I'm still very disappointed to see the UAF being almost ignored by most of the reports. IMO both groups need the criticism here, as the UAF basically just follow round the EDL, which is asking for trouble just as much.

They were all down in Brighton together today. EDL protest, along with "Anti-Facists" (no doubt UAF or similar) following for their own.

Yep UAF, and their hangers on, are just as bad - up for a ruck pure and simple, sadly their name gives them too much leeway with some people, to be fair the T&A did report that people from their protest tried to break out and incite trouble with the EDL, and the article I linked to stated their role in helping fan the flames in 2001.

As everyone knew the T&A would give a totally biased report i took the opportunity to visit Bradford on Saturday and had a fairly decent view of the events from standing near the bottom of cheapside..

Some EDL supporters arrived on foot and by train but most were ferried in on couches to the demo point, i suspect there was a large group of Football Hooligan type amongst them for this one. A large group of Asian men and a few studenty looking types also gathered to greet them chanting the "nazis off our streets" and making strange grunting sounds. The EDL responded by singing "England till i die" etc.

As the EDL group grew larger they pushed forward towards the UAF/others but the police line held firm. The first missiles that i saw thrown were from the EDL side and were thrown back. Racist chants were exchanged by both sides which i found strange as the UAF supporters (who were predomantly white) stood next to the Asian men shouting "white b*****s" etc!!

At that point i left. I will say i thought the police did an excellent job at keeping the 2 sides apart.
