So many on here have been clamouring for the club to spend on coaching staff, have they not? How might they react if we cut corners on the coaching staff, even if to pay for say one or two more middle-rank players?
Club runs the risk of being damned if they do and damned if they do not.
With the youth pipeline starting to hit paydirt, I'd personally prefer we got the future coaching structure "right", even if that limited the player budget a little at least in the short term.
Since the "right" coaching appointment/s will surely bring more fans flocking back, as the Macca Sackers have assured us, and thereby generate more funds for players going forward anyway.
And on the basis that the "right" coaching staff will surely bring the results that all the Macca Sackers have assured us they will, even working to the same player budgets as Macca has had to, since they regularly assure us that the "Right" appointments will clearly be far better coaches than Macca is? I cannot imagine any of the Macca Sackers now saying that the budget constraint, out of his hands, was in fact a big issue and that the "right" coaching team cannot in fact do better than Macca without more budget?
So I agree with the Macca Sackers on that point - you want to get the "right" coaching appointments, you gotta pay for it. And if that is at the expense of other budgets, well is there an alternative?

I think the biggest problem we may face is the lack of talent likely to be up for grabs. The new coach is going to have to be up to speed with players in SL (without a quota spot available) to recruit from. The new coach is going to have to work hard with the squad we have and the young players already at the club. I don't expect we'll see a huge turnaround in personnel this year.

| I can not understand why people want a coach that whose team had done nothing in the past years, in fact not even getting a higher position in the SL than our beloved Bradford.
If Brian McDermott gets the job I can not see us progressing in the SL

You really think it's as simple as where you finish in a table as to how good a coach is?
I would argue the budget down at Quins is probably lower than ours, especially considering their constantly poor attendances. Put the same coach in a rich club (i.e. Warrington) and I don't think he'd have that team 2nd from bottom.

Or maybe another large debt was cleared in the last year?

My most recent understanding was that at least one significant obligation will be with us for a while yet

| Would we have to pay compensation to 'Quin's if we signed McDermott? And if so would the club want to sign him?
I think he's in the same boat as McNamara - a good reputation as a coach (I know a lot of Leeds fans where sad to see him leav) but nothing to suggest he's capable of bringing success to a club as Head Coach as Quin's seem to be going backwards. The same goes for Jimmy Lowes.
If things are going to be tight for another few years (and if we finally get permission to develop Odsal it would surely effect the clubs budget) wouldn't we be better with an experienced coach who has experience working on a budget and developing youth.
Oh God... it's not going to be Daryl Powell is it? Please stay Macca!

I was hoping we might have that sorted soon.

| I would have preffered Wayne Bennet or Alex Murphy or poached Sean Edwards from Union or Sir Alf Ramsey. But that's the board's lack of ambition for you.
