Psychology is only going to work if players buy into it and also accept that the team's aims are achievable. The goal for the Bulls this season would be "avoid relegation" (which in itself isn't much of a positive). From a starting point of -6 points, a decimated squad and all the early season uncertainty it would have to be someone special to change minds. The overriding attitude this season has been one of resignation. There's no excuse for not trying but you can see the reason why it seems pointless to go out and bust a gut.

Meanwhile Wakefield beat Wigan. But hey we put same amount of effort as they did according to Starbug.

I can't. Until very recently, going out and busting a gut would have kept each of these players in a SL squad.

Sammut can't get in the team under the new coach seemingly. I like Sammut, I know he has his moments but he can turn a game.
The reason we beat Wigan (and some dubious ref. calls) was due to one thing - the team wanted to win and played as a team for the first time this season. Also the return of Tim Smith has been greatly influential in the last two games! Yes he is a loan player but I think you will see him at Wakefield after this season.

Agreed to a point, and I would be the last to simplify a complicated subject (or anything!) - but you can't manufacture self-confidence, it just happens. As for belief and confidence in your team-mates, it strikes me that if I, as a fan, watch us start another set of six and all I am wondering is, how we gonna screw this set up, (but I'll be surprised if we don't) probably all the players are thinking the same.

But you won't convince me that (however lacking in confidence etc) if in each and every game the players had bust a gut, we wouldn't have picked up enough wins by the end of the season to stay up. And maybe played ourselves into a bit of form and confidence in the process.

When things are going very badly they can come out fighting to the death, or they can look for somewhere to hide, or leave it to someone else. Too often we do the latter and that's why we give away a half-century every time we go on the park. If 3 or 4 men were in on every tackle, it wouldn't happen.
