| Regarding competing against Leigh/Fev. No we can't compete with their investment at this moment in time. But Featherstone aren't in this position by accident, yes they had investment, but they've also consistently being a top 4 championship team for a number of years. That's what we need to become. Not one year 3rd the next season 8th. The level of investment at those clubs can't go on forever in the championship (Brian Mcdermott comments about wanting to increase home attendances at Fev were interesting)
The squad is good but is underforming at the moment. We need to start capitalising when we get into good positions as a club. The Whitehaven game last year being a good example. There were tons of kids on the terraces and new faces after decent marketing by the club. We were 16-0 up. We should have won that game, finished third and at the end of the game try make a big song and dance of its play-off time and get all those back for a very winnable home play-off tie against 6th place. Instead we completely disintegrated and limped out of the season without a whimper.

| The squad on paper isn’t bad and we have a half back pairing as good as any in the league.
Not to mention we have the advantage of being used to playing on that crap pitch of ours. We might not be a top 4 side but we should be able to compete and the players should not be gassing out as much as they are.
A bit of a change will do us good.

I don't really know anything about the guy, and I don't know if he'd even want the job permanently. But it certainly ticks the 'cheap' box.
If we win the next couple is the call for Dunning going to become irresistible?'"
Taking the cheap option and more amateur coaches from West Bowling will just make the slide down the table quicker, the club needs to be professional not relying on amateurs, next coach needs to be someone who the players and fans can get behind and drive the club forward.

| I don't know what it says about the quality of Bradford or the quality of available coaches, but a thread like this would normally be utterly full of credible suggestions about who we could appoint. Who have we said?

This bloke sounds way too good for a mid-table championship side to consider
Seriously though, I'd be reaching out to James Webster. I think he left Fev after wanting to stay PT due to his commitments at Leeds Beckett Uni. He has done a decent job at most places he's coached at and knows the league well. Could possible get a better tune out of the existing squad than Kear.
I wouldn't necessarily discount Mark Dunning until the end of the year. He might be tarnished with the association of being part of the existing set up, but don't forget he got his orders from Kear. That doesn't necessarily mean he agreed or didn't have his own opinions that he could not get implemented. Will see what kind of style he plays soon enough as he will have a couple of weeks i'd have thought.
Only one of the other names I'd be interested in would be Chev Walker. Done a great job with the Leeds Academy and would hopefully be able to make better use of the Leeds boys we signed at the start of the season and also any dual reg players available.
I know there is a lot of love for Leon being a Bradford lad and former Bull, but personally I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole!!!

Completely agree. I know some people want someone who bleeds Red, Amber and Black but harking back to the past has killed us, even Kear was misty eyed about visits to Bfd in the late 90's. We need a complete reset.

| I'm not sure that Kear actually did that much coaching. I think a lot of it was left to his assistants so promoting up an assistant may not change much in gameplan.

It would be interesting to see how Jarrod went as player coach. Not sure Moimoi's record of curfew breaking would encourage The Bulls to shed all or any of their excess pounds, which has to be the first task of any incoming coach.
Pumpety Pump, your list missed John Duffy who has been mentioned. Liked him at Leigh and there wasn't much he could do in last season's shamelessly rigged SL.
For those of you oddly titillated by the prospect of Bullseye's [imucho al fresco[/i gyrations, despite public denials from both parties, Bongser's buddy who regularly exchanges texts with Tony Smith says he will definitely be heading upstairs at Headingley and it is not anywhere recorded that TS is a cricket expert!

That's a good point.
I wasn't advocating for Dunning, by the way. I just think that clubs quite often plump for the assistant. There's a bit of a sporting trope whereby the players decide to pull their finger out after a coach is sacked. So the management appoint the interim. It usually works out badly as things settle down and the players revert to their old habits.
I believe City had a case of this not long ago.
On balance, a clean sweep sounds best

| Even if the players pull their finger out, I still wouldn’t have Dunning. He might be alright in the interim but I’d prefer a better appointment.
My first choice would be to try get Paul Anderson back into coaching. He’s done really well at Huddersfield and the England Knights so has that experience.
A lot of people saying we need fresh. But our last 3 coaches have all been people not associated with the club and the fans have basically ousted them? Rohan (okay his dad was coach but he’s his own man), Toovey, Kear (albeit he made a rod for his own back from the back end of last year to this year).
Would anyone take the likes of Danny Orr/Ryan Sheridan? Or do you all have someone different in mind?

| I wouldn't mind seeing Ward and Langley come as a 1 and 2 for the 1st team and keep Beatie and Dunning working with the reserves and academy.

| If I was the owner I'd want a clean slate. Maybe give the new head coach 6 months to bring his own people in.

| Out of the names mentioned so far Danny Ward is the one who stands out to me, he got London promoted and almost kept them in super league, all on limited resources. Played at the top level with Leeds so will have experienced top coaching there. Has no association with the Bulls so comes with no baggage or over expectation. We’ve had a previous player with Jimmy which didn’t go well, so best stay away from ex players.

| I'd be happy with Ward and Langley although I hear Ward wants to stay D'aarn Sawth..
One that nobody has mentioned and who has been spotted at Odsal recently is Nobby.
That's bound to be an opinion splitter?..
