| Quote ="paulwalker71"Regarding Limelight, yes it was them that always finished off their set with 'Sabre Dance'
I honestly can't think of any venue or even potential venue in Bolton Woods. I was very active in watching bands from that era and don't recall any venue anywhere near Bolton Woods. They were regulars at the Princeville, and played a few other venues around town - I remember seeing them once at that pub on Westgate (next door to the Boy and Barrell down the hill). And possibly at the Royal Standard. They probably also played the old Talk of the Town venue on Leeds Road.
Happy Days....'" yes happy days indeed, watched plenty of bands in the royal standard, the punk scene was fantastic in there.the pub down from the boy n barrell was the tavern in the town, yes limelight were regulars on the stage.just cant remember where nosey parkers was.remember seeing son of a bitch at the princeville before they became saxon, then the vaux bar where i saw human league before they made it big,aw the memories are flooding back ![ROCKS k020.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//k020.gif)

No, the Goldsborough is the one just a few yards further up from the Corn Dolly. I believe it shut recently? Something i don't think will ever happen to the brilliant Dolly!

| I saw Def Leppard at Bradford Uni when they WERE a rock band. Unfortunately they became American and henceforth were crap!
PS Anyone remember Baby Tuckoo and Warlord?

| Blimey I'll have to get this one, probably wait for the updated one in May.
On the name of the venue could it have been the Beehive ? I'm not sure when they had the extension built for the bands so I might be way out with dates!
Anyone else here Ex Wheatsheaf, Queens Hall/Celler Bar and Frog and Toad?
Some some "interesting" bands at the Queens Hall/Celler Bar - Gypsy Queen, Celtic Frost, Destruction, Lawnmower Deth!! Oh and Bradford's very own Spoilt Bratz who became Terrorvision.
Brings back some great memories.....

Went out for curry with Spoilt Bratz, as a friend was working as a music journalist at the time and I used to carry the camera. I now know the drummer in passing through mutual friends.
I liked Gypsy Queen in the way teenage boys do. Can't recall the music at all ![Very Happy icon_biggrin.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_biggrin.gif)

Many thanks to everyone who made suggestions on this one....after a bit more digging, i found a site dedicated to Limelight complete with past tour dates !!
Looks like i was a bit out with my guess at location but according to them they playes at 2 venues in Bradford that year... Princeville and Gatsbys..not sure i remeber if they were pub names or Areas but hey...were getting closer..

About half way up Ingleby Road from Girlington traffic lights, turn left on Princeville Road. Go right to the far end (its a dead end) and the club is on the right hand side. At the time it was more or less in the middle of nowhere, but houses have been built all along there now.
The building itself is still there. I paid a nostalgic visit about a year ago when I was over that side of town, and it was boarded-up and looked pretty derelict. The basic building seemed intact and the concert room was on the back - still seemed to be more or less as it was.
If someone had a win on the lottery it could be bought, refurbished and re-opened. Now that would be an awesome trip into the 70s and 80s for people of a certain vintage ![ROCKS k020.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//k020.gif)

Good effort Paul, i just google mapped the Princeville and i can say with almost certainty that wasnt the place unfortunately...the mystery still continues, the place i saw limelight was a pub and from what i can remember was in the middle of an estate..the pub had a nightclub type venue attatched at the side and had a very low ceiling..it was a long hall type room...anyone know where gatsbys was ? according to their website they played there the same year..

| IIRC Gatsbys is still there albeit a bombed-out shell halfway down the road connecting Westgate and Manningham Lane (Hamm Strasse?) on the right. It wasn't like you describe either. The only pubs I can think like that would be some gaff up in Thornton (Steelers?) or The Tyke up Thornton Road which was called summat else back then. Other than that you're on your own! You may have your wires crossed as the description fits The Princeville to a tee.

Hmmm
Middle of estate rings a bell for me. There was a short-lived venue on the Bell Dean Estate in Allerton that fits that description. I can't remember the name of it to be honest, but I remember going there. I've a feeling it was a WMC rather than a pub - might have been called The Belldean Club - or perhaps it was the Bell Dean pub??
But it was right in the middle of the estate, a real rough hole frankly. They had bands on there for a few months in the late 70s.
Ring any bells ![USTUPID icon_stupid.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_stupid.gif)

Old Road just off Thornton Road is right next to where the Tyke now stands (I drive past it twice a day).
