Was a Top player.. Fairly ordinary now, but a big enough name to get Super League clubs excited.
Any truth in the stories over the years and press comments then yes, absolute w**ker!

I'd think that the person posting it had been smoking something he should not have, to be honest.

| Amen to Steve Menzies at the Bulls. What an enthusiastic and talented player he has been for us over two seasons. He gave us his all despite being in a poorish team, and showed a class that would have not been out of place in our very best sides in the recent past.
36-37 y.o. - hmmm, could certainly have done another year for us, but as has been said it depends on how his quota spot and salary is to be used.
IMO we do need to mark his last match at Gratten in some special way, tho I've no idea how to do this. We have a poor record in general in saying goodbye to valued players.

It would be good if we could put a montage together like we have done before. Its been an honour to see him play in the red, black and amber

| Menzies has been a great player and wonderfull to watch the last 2 years. But if potter can bring in another top aussie or kiwi on a 2 or 3 year deal it would be worth letting menzies go.

I quite agree with the first two paragraphs; Menzies has been superb and player of the year for me, though, given his age, we do need to see all the ins and outs before criticising his departure too much.
Not sure about the last bit though. Over the SL period in general, I think we've done pretty well to players when they leave. To be fair, much of it was down to Sky as well as the club and also, when we went into the play-offs it was later in the season and we actually [iknew[/i who was leaving at the last home game, whereas, both last year and this, we don't actually know [iexactly[/i who is and who isn't leaving yet. Even Beaver seems to have left the door ajar, and if a new quota player doesn't materialise then he may well stay.
The one thing above all about Odsal fans for me though is that we don't, generally speaking descend into the 'FC reject' mentality when ex-players return and usually they get a decent reception from the faithful. There have been exceptions to that, Paul 'Bad Back' Newlove, for instance, but given the way he left I guess that was understandable.

| looking at how well Menzies has performed (we did not expect anything other tho from a living legend). Can you imagine how good he must have being to watch week in week out when he was in his prime!
Love to see him stay like I would have Morrison, but it is a business and if there is a better long term solution avilable this off season then we should take it. BUT I would hate to see us replace him with an average player who is not going to give you the same as Beaver.

Totally agree with that. If it turns out to be a quality stand off, allowing Kearney to play in his best position of full back, or even another class centre to go with Chev Walker, then it would have to be regarded as a progressive move by the club.

| Beaver had a son named Harper Mackie Menzies. For those of you who don't know Steve's grand father was Mackie Campbell who played in Manly's inaugural team way back in 1947
