As much as I understand where folk are coming from, I just can't agree with some of the comments.
The prospect of signing a top centre and Brough makes me believe we can make the playoffs next year and have a decent run.
The prospect of signing Orford, makes me think we've got a chance of winning the competition. He is THAT good and we have been missing a truly top quality halfback for far too long now.
If Orford comes, I can't wait until next season.

Brass aside (which is obviously attractive), it doesn't sound like his heart would be in it.
How do we feel about that?
Throwing more money at a player brings no guarantees he's going to commit to the cause like someone who actually DOES want to come over.
It's a gamble.

It's always a gamble signing any player from Aus.
I'd say given our recent history, this gamble is worth having a go.
Have to credit the club for even trying tbh if it doesn't come off. |

Can't blame him for choosing Aus as his first choice. I doubt many players truely have an 'ambition' to play in the 2nd best competition in the World. If he comes it'll be largely down to money like 99% of overseas signings. Looks like this coming week could be an interesting one. |

Maybe it's my pessimistic side that's kicking into overload now, but I can't help but see us losing Deacs to Wigan and then Orford choose to stay at Manly, thus leaving us with Kearney & Sykes as our only halves.

I would have thought that the Deacon deal will only properly go through if we actually sign Orford.

I don't think that you can underestimate the effect of Menzies. The guy is [isuch[/i a legend in Aus that no self respecting Aussie would give less that 100% in his presence. |
