I was going to say that too - they will have existing sponsors most likely. Also, with so many players leaving you'd suspect the existing sponsors would get first tilt at the incomers (assuming we actually get some beyond those already announced). But, to be honest, I suspect most folk would prefer to sponsor an up-and-coming junior anyway?

Certainly with the distance, work, a young family, amoungst other things, anything more than we are talking about start to become difficult.
I propose
Sounds good to me. Defo far easier if everything gets payable to the club and preferably by cheque - avoids the need for anyone to process the payments and a lot of the admin and legals that might otherwise arise.
I was getting a bit worried when people were talking about doing it all through PayPal or with a separate bank account - trust me...its far easier if all that can be avoided, as several on here have wisely said)
Just need a basic agreement - bit like a lottery syndicate thingie?
Incidentally, if the interest is sufficient, any reason why "the group" could not seek to sponsor two players? Maybe if both Burgesses got shirts next year...

| You can count me in. As a regular reader but not much of a poster on this board i think this is one of the most positive things i have seen. Halifax do something very similiar so it might be worth having a word with someone at the Shay or on the Halifax forum. Good luck and well done Wigan Bull.

| Incidentally, I fully agree with picking a young player. That's definitely where fans should be aiming imo.
Regarding Bradfordians btw, Crossley is one of those too, as he used to live round the corner from me.
The good thing about this too is that if the young player that is chosen makes the first team and ends up going on to decent things, we have first dibs on the sponsorship due to having them the previous year.
As far as an amount goes, I'm pretty much fine with whatever the general opinion is. As long as it's not up above the ton mark!

True, when I spoke to the club about this yesterday they were very keen on a fans group sponsoring a player but did point out that excisting sponsors choose to keep sponsorships first before any are made available. But, if we keep in touch we can get a "heads up" on what is available, and that there will be some definate availablity with the new players and promoted juniors TBA (But we don't get full choice of the squad)
Up and coming players is a good way to go for me, Olibson, Whitehead, one of the Burgesssss if they get a first team shirt etc (would love Halley but I suspect we have little to no chance of that). But we need to be led by info from the club closer to the date as to who we are choosing from.
I also strongly agree it needs to be as simple as possible, and the lotto syndicate is a good analogy. I also like the idea of making cheques payable to the Bulls, could make things much simpler for Wigan Bull?

Young player for me too. It will also be our best chance to sponsor someone, the Burgess' would be excellent IMO.
I've emailed the club for further details and will report back ASAP with more info as I have it.

| As far as picking the player (apologies if someone already suggested this and I've missed it).
Once we get a list of which players are available for sponsorship, we could see which of those are in the price range that was agreed upon, then just take a vote. If everyone who is contributing votes for their top 3, with first choice getting 3 points, second choice 2 points and third choice 1 point, then just collate those scores and see which player has most points. Go for that player, and if he has been snapped up since we found out the list, just pick the next best score and so on.
In the event of a tie, Wigan Bull gets deciding vote since he's co-ordinating it.

| A young up and coming player would be perfect IMO. I will need to transfer my pledge to somebody's british account.

| If people cannot send a cheque and can do paypal, I don't mind being the one they send it to, then I can write the cheque for the combined contributions (if the person has enough trust to do so obviously!).
Just one other thing that has occurred to me. What if we work out the contribution for everyone, and then one or more people don't fulfill the promise and don't send the money? We need some sort of contingency plan in place for that, as I don't think it would be practical for the others to then send a little more (not without ending up with shedloads of cheques). Perhaps if any haven't sent the money, we throw it open for someone else to take the place who maybe didn't put their name down the first time around? (The same plan would need to be in place in case any cheques bounce and the Bulls come to Wigs asking for the extra, we don't want him having to pay it!)
(I also think that's quite good typing for someone who's not entirely sober right now )

Dear Red, Ambers and Blacks Sirs and Gares Wo-man,
Good day and compliments. This email will definitely come to you as a huge surprise, but I implore you to take the time to go through it carefully as the decision you make will go off a long way to determine the future and continued existence of the entire members of the Bradfords Bull.
Please allow me to introduce myself. You know me as tigerstot, however my real name is Dr. (Mrs.) Mariam Abacha, the wife of the late head of state and commander in chief of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria who died on the 8th of June 1998.
My ordeal started immediately after my husband's death on the morning of 8th June 1998, and the subsequent take over of government by the last administration. The present democratic government is determined to portray all the good work of my late husband in a bad light and have gone as far as confiscating all my late husband's assets, properties, freezing our accounts both within and outside Nigeria. As I am writing this letter to you, my son Mohammed Abacha is undergoing questioning with the government. All these measures taken by past/present government is just to gain international recognition.
I and the entire members of my family have been held incommunicado since the death of my husband, hence I seek your indulgence to assist us in securing these funds. We are not allowed to see or discuss with anybody. Few occasions I have tired traveling abroad through alternative means all failed.
It is in view of this I have mandated DR WIGANS BULLS, who has been assisting the family to run around on so many issues to act on behalf of the family concerning the substance of this letter. He has the full power of attorney to execute this transaction with you.
My late husband had/has Eighty Million USD ($80,000,000.00) specially preserved and well packed in trunk boxes of which only my husband and I knew about. It is packed in such a way to forestall just anybody having access to it. It is this sum that I seek your assistance to get out of Nigeria as soon as possible before the present civilian government finds out about it and confiscate it just like they have done to all our assets with the porpoise of investing in Bradfords Bull.
I implore you to please give consideration to my predicament and help a widow in need. Please note that this transaction is 100% safe and we hope THAT THE FUNDS CAN ARRIVE YOUR ACCOUNT in latest ten (10) banking days from the date of reciept of the following information by TEL/FAX: 234-1-7747907: A SUITABLE NAME AND BANK ACCOUNT INTO WHICH THE FUNDS CAN BE PAID. PLEASE ENDEAVOUR TO RESPOND BY TELEPHONE OR FAX.
May Allah show you mercy as you do so?
Your faithfully,
Dr (Mrs.) Mariam Abacha (M.O.N)
