So, a brief report on the
rllicensing reviewrl that took place yesterday.
Sounds like the Panel weren't overly impressed with the allegations, since
Quote: tigertot "The panel made two changes to OK Bulls’ outdoor events licence. The first was to firm-up the wording to specify that when on duty, personal licence holders should be identifiable and working where drinks were being sold.
The second was to have an event management plan approved by the panel before its next concert.'"
I remain uneasy at PC Dawson's attitude to this.
First, she said that the concert overran by eight minutes, she said Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney had the plug pulled on them when they over-ran at a concert in London last year, and that this should also have happened at Odsal. This, to me, says it all. She is referring to the 2012 concert in Hyde Park, where 80,000 people were watching Springsteen and McCartney duetting when the organisers pulled the plug mid-song so as not to break the licence curfew. Now, anyone who has ever been to a concert knows that punctuality and strict timekeeping/scheduling really isn't what concerts , especially rock concerts, are all about, and so it was a mystery to me why the organisers didn't just let the show, within reason, finish after a belated encore or two. But obviously they must have been given the hard word by council jobsworths and feared for their future concerts, and were so fearful that they took this absurd step.
What's worrying is that most people would just shake their heads in bewilderment at the lack of any in-built common sense leeway, PC Jones thinks orders is orders, and eight minutes more Rick Astley than licenced is a heinous hanging offence. Which in fairness it probably is, but not for the reasons stated. Now, I would agree that serving alcohol beyond the permitted minute can't be allowed, but letting the performer take a few more minutes to finish the show, which is running generally within 1% or so of on time?? I and the zealous officer will have to disagree.
It may have happened in hyde Park, but it doesn't happen in most places across the globe, and such petty officialdom and jobsworth attitudes are to be deprectaed, not applauded. By doing this, the local authority in London, and on a wider note, in the eyes of the world the UK, were made a laughing stock. After the event, Boris Johnson said

‘If they'd have called me, my answer would have been for them to jam in the name of the Lord!"'"
