Hmmmmm
How can the fight and grit that we showed against St Helens be so conspicuous by its absence today? That's a question that the whole team have got to look in the mirror and answer honestly
A reasonably decent start, followed by 15 minutes where we simply didn't defend effectively put the game out of reach. We were lucky to still be in the game at half time, as Hull bombed a couple of decent opportunities to put the game well out of reach and then we get our two tries. We desperately needed to score first in the 2nd half, but instead let in a pretty soft effort. Then it was down to dumb football and mistakes that meant we were never really going to come back.
Hull were nothing special today, but we were worse. Plenty of effort from Lynch and Kopczak but Scruton didn't really look like he should have been thrown out there. Very little from Elima and even less from Langley meant that we were light in the forward (especially with only three forwards on the bench and Burgess hardly used).
I thought Herbert was OK today actually - but what is it with us constantly playing people out of position. At one point in the second half we had an entire backline of people playing out of position. Royston is patently not a winger, and I think Whitehead needs to be moved back into the pack.
As for Patrick AhVan he was poor last week, and worse this week. On this sort of showing he shouldn't be getting a contract for next year. To be honest he played like someone who has already been told he isn't getting one!
Looks like the Top 8 is over for another season. We've got to win two more games than Hull, and its hard to see how we'll do that frankly
