| I'm going to wait and see what the response is on Friday before I join either camp. I can take us losing at home and pretty much getting nilled if there is a response the week after. I wouldn't care if we lost as long as the team gave us a scrap of hope to cling on to.
The same rubbish on Friday night though and I'm in the McNamara out camp.
A good team isn't one that doesn't lose. It's one that puts in a backlash the next week.

I agree with that. If there's a glimpse of hope or effort then that's an improvement at least.
If we put in the same type of performance as yesterday, then I may have to join the McNamara out party. Effort is the main thing I ask for on friday.

I like the idea that 'a glimpse of hope' is an improvement, says it all really.
The problem is you'll always be able to find a glimpse of hope, we might even win, but it won't remedy the long term problems and patterns that are described above and elsewhere. You could even wait until we've been written off for the play-offs, had a forced change in the HB pairing and the players have nothing to lose, we might then string together a bit of a run. But we've been told the criteria by which to judge the success of the team and we were told the criteria last year. Last year these criteria weren't met and it looks doubtful this year (although long way to go I admit!), so I presume we suffer another frustrating year, Macca then goes and we try to 're-build' again with a dwindled support base, less income and during a period of transition to another ground in some form or another. That's not a great scenario to be honest. Far better to show some decisive management, get rid of him now, look for the bump of a new coach and re-invite those lost fans back whilst we can still re-kindle the pre-season buzz.

Aye, and Eddie is hinting at it too. And, as we all know:

| It seems that now more and more people have quite simply had enough (the general concensus is that yesterdays was the worst ever in his 4 (FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) years in the job). We now have a list of all available coaches that may be tempted to take over us if the decision is finally taken to remove the present commander in chief.
I said long ago that he should have gone after the Wigan play-off capitulation yet he has been allowed to carry on regardless and he even managed to better himself with a capitulation against the Catalans in the CC last season that eclipsed even the Wigan one (albeit at a slightly less important stage). We are now a complete laughing stock.
However, there is still nothing to suggest that he is gonna get removed (bar maybe a campaign from the terraces but we get so few fans at the games now that it is unlikely that they would even be heard.)
I have asked the people who are talking about the time needed to gel and the ones saying that the pitches do not suit the Aussies how it is that the likes of Hull seem to have gotten it together so well. What exactly is the off-season for? Blimey, we had more of an off-season than most so you would have thought that we would have had more chance to get it right?
As for bedding in? Menzies, Orford, Le'Strange and Hall all played together at Manly so that does not exactly cut the cloth with me I am afraid.
Unfortunately, as I have said for a while now, Hood does not have the balls to fire him and McNamara will not do the decent thing and resign so we will be stuck with him till the end of the season AT LEAST!!!!

I think thats right, but depending who you listen to we're either skint, not that well off or just very cautious with the cash we do have (quite rightly in my view) as there is no safety net of a wealthy owner to pick up the pieces if it all goes wrong.
So the discussion is can we afford to remove the coach and and the same time pay for another? There are valid points either way, but my solution, is if we are that "cautious", is to free up money from the playing staff to pay for the next coach whist your paying out the contract of McNamara.
Nothing to do with the cap as such, but we've been told we could spend the full cap if needed so maybe thats where we can we find the extra cash if needed. Swap an experienced player with higher salary for a loan/junior with lower salary, use the difference to put towards the costs of changing coach. We'd be a worse playing squad, but if we're bouncing along the bottom of the league anyway what would that matter?
Its only a thought, no idea if it would be a valid course of action, only people with possession of the numbers could tell us that.

| Sack him. Hes had more than a chance. Time to freshen it up.
Nobody minds a team losing who look like they are giving it everything and just coming up short. But we just look crap.

Really??? We need to get battered twice? If so then fair enough, I await the masterplan coming to fruition. Otherwise, I await his sacking.

| Survival in SL (or any sport) is a numbers game though and so the issue here is not whether we sack the coach, or any other action/s, but what are the financial consequences of action or inaction.
I have made the point for a long time that our home 'form' has been seemingly designed to drive away the long-suffering home fans, and as a policy that has been quite successful, but we have done some more very serious damage on that score this weekend.
IF we "do" something - (whatever that something is) or if we do nothing, either way there are financial implications, and they need to be counted. So for example IF we do nothing, and IF nothing at home improves, the this time next year we may be down to 6-7K gates. This is just a hypothetical scenario, but the point I am making is that if (say) the answer was to spend £0.5 million on player X, and we "can't afford it", we might end up "reverse spending" that or more, by way of decreased revenue anyway.
The number of people I know who used to go, but no longer are prepared to spend their money, has significantly increased. At our club last night, there are some very long-standing and very loyal supporters who have been going for decades, and will continue to go, but the thing is that all of them - ALL of them - are really, really disillusioned with the situation and none of them are getting any enjoyment out of going to Odsal any more. In a business venture that is part of the entertainment industry, that's a recipe for the biggest of disasters.

Out of our group of 6 yesterday there's only one now considering going to the Cas match. The majority of us have been fans since the 80s, however it's getting to the stage where we're picking our home games rather than going to every one like we do with away ones.

| Its hard to blame anyone for not going at the moment. Watching rugby at Odsal over the past three seasons has been thoroughly miserable. Even as a season ticket holder I have to say if Friday's a poor evening ill watch the game from the comfort of my own home as opposed to on a crumbling terrace with a few more depressed people! I just cant get my head around the total lack of action taken against the coach. Just how long are they going to give him?

| Saw the highlights and thought your defence was terrible, no urgency at all and when you give saints that much space theirs only ever going to be one result, I suppose you've got to give them a chance with all your new signings I'm sure they'll come good but wether Macca will be in charge by then I'm not so sure.
