Kearney to miss first few games after all. not worth rushing him back in a position where our cover is actually pretty good. Decision now is who plays FB til he's back. choice of Kear,Foster,Gaskell or sammut. Think I'd go for Gaskell. No point disrupting rest of team when hes available and he looked solid enough their last week.'"
Yet again we have a player nursing a known injury over winter. As soon as training starts realises op needed and misses start of season. See my posts this time last season. Fully accept am not a Doctor but this keeps happening to our small squad and thus we start with less players than if op done at season end.Frustrating.

| It does say in the article that they gave it the off season to settle down but at the end of the first week back it was decided to do something. They started pre-season on the 5th November - 3 months ago.
If he had the operation then - just before he went home for Christmas, it seems a decent timeline for recovery. It reads as if he HASN'T just had it done. If it was done in November then that seems reasonable to me. The must have had medical advice to give it the off season to heal itself. I agree though it is a shame to lose him at the start but I am used to it with Kearney as he has always been injury prone. Gaskell for me at fullback.

| Wonder if the club had done anything, training wise and medical wise with him, but as he went to aus until fairly recently bet they haven't had chance.

he had the surgery before christmas. Club let him stay in OZ longer than usual to recuperate from the surgery. Sounds like they left it for period between our seaon ending and start of pre-season to see if it would heal on its own then sent him for surgery as soon as it was apparent it was still an issue. Think its pretty standard practice, from a medical point of view, to try and avoid surgery wherever possible.

I would not have Purtell anywhere near the starting 13. He is crap.

| Would have had Blythe but he's injured so I went for Purts.

| Would agree with that a fairly strong starting team, Purts needs to show why we signed him and with Blythe out what else can we do, or we use George who isn't as strong a defender?

| I'd generally agree that Blythe is the better option over Purtell although i was quietly impressed with Purtell in the Hull friendly - lets hope he can kick on and have a good season.

Sadly we do not have many options but that is not really my point. I just generally think he is crap and I would not have him near my starting line up.

| I thought Purtell and Foster actually seemed to work well together in the hull friendly. The break we made right on half time was pretty classy, some nice interchange passes between the pair of them. Purtell also backed up well for his try.
At the minute we don't have many options, but I'd actually be willing to give him a few games to see how he goes anyway.

How did you think he went vs Hull FC in the friendly?
Only one run out but that's kinda all we've got to judge it on outside of being the... Coach! What say you?
(I haven't seen him train before that match, nor am I privy to his training stats, I'm the first admit...)

| Been a rumour on wakey forum most of week that they were looking at sammut. Now their convinced they've signed gale. Seems unlikely given he's just been made vice captain.

You can see players moving for more pay, greater security, or the chance of medals - so not sure Wakey would tick any of those boxes?
