The lads a journo. It should be highly assumed a large percentage of Bulls fans don't check the Guardian website or whatever for RL content everyday, they check the T&A. Therefore when he heard or reads something, he relays it to his target audience, Bradford Bulls fans.
Simples.

Orford's still not signed though.....
One's Bradford (duh!), I presume the 2nd one would be Wigan?

Russell Crowe's money pushing Matt Orford out
MATT Orford could quit the NRL as early as today after English Super League giants the Bradford Bulls significantly upgraded their offer for the Manly skipper over the weekend.
The additional money has come from Souths co-owner Russell Crowe, who paid the Bulls a massive transfer fee - some say up to $500,000 - for the release of England Test forward Sam Burgess.
Sources in England said the Bulls have tabled a three-year deal for Orford worth close to $1.5million.
Manly's offer is $600,000 over two years.
Orford is reluctant to leave the NRL and believes the Sea Eagles can win another premiership in 2010, but the huge money on offer in England could be irresistible.
Orford joined Manly on $450,000 a year from Melbourne and has since won a premiership, world club challenge and a Dally M Medal. One source said: "Matt is a very loyal bloke. It will be a tough decision for him but the terms on offer are incredible.''

There are several clubs interested in Orford, but Bradford's deal is the most attractive.
Negotiations between Orford's manager George Mimis and Manly have been ongoing. However, the Sea Eagles' reluctance to appoint a chief executive over the past five months has hindered discussions.
Orford was about to re-sign with Manly until Bradford's increased offer arrived on Saturday night. Should he join the Bulls, Orford would link with former Manly teammates Steve Menzies, Heath L'Estrange and Glenn Hall.
Orford's departure would leave a huge gap at Manly, but rising star Kieran Foran would more than likely start at halfback with Lyon shifting to five-eighth.
The skipper attended Manly's orientation day on Friday before taking off on a short holiday.
"We have had protracted dialogue with Manly,'' Orford's manager George Mimis said.
"Matt was at Manly's orientation day on Friday and we hope to have a decision on his future over the next day or two.''
Adding to the intrigue surrounding Orford, Bradford are refusing to confirm or deny reports linking their halfback Paul Deacon with a shock move to Wigan.
Deacon, 30, is set to quit the Yorkshire club for their Lancashire rivals, who will be coached by former Melbourne Storm assistant Michael Maguire next season.
Manly chairman Scott Penn was unavailable for comment yesterday.
Meanwhile, Burgess almost signed with Manly after Menzies had spoken to his Bulls teammate about heading to Brookvale.
But the Sea Eagles had no room in their 2010 salary cap to accommodate the giant English youngster.

| As good a player as Orford is, i don't think $1.5m over 3 years is the best way to spend that kind of money, i'd prefer if we brought in a decent half like Brough and sign a centre as well because our three quarters aren't looking too good

It's about £800k, so about £260-270k per year at the current exchange rate

| If he signs he'll will certainly be among our top earners if not the highest and rightly so given his ability. He hasn't had the best of years in the NRL but the guy still has all the skills. Certainly good enough to unlock SL defences! However I wouldn't get too hooked up on paper talk on what he'll be earning, they're likely just guessing themselves.

| I would love to see Orford at Odsal because he is one of the best halfbacks in the world. But a 3 year contract and roughly 270k a year seems a bit hefty, afterall he will be 32 at the start of next season.

I agree sounds alot of dosh, no doubt he's a quality player, but im in the swoop for brough camp, & use the overseas spot on quality centre. Having said that i do think we lack a vocal leader on the park & i think orford would give us that.

| lifted this from the manly forum.
Quote: heart-wrenching decision "Looks like no-one heard Zorba (after the 4 nationals final) this morning (?)
For those who are interested.....
A caller asked him who would be our halfback next year. Zorba's reply was that it would be either Orford, Foran or Hogkinson. He then explained Orford had agreed to terms but just hadn't signed and then last week Bradford had made him a very big offer. He was granted about 48 hrs to make a "heart-wrenching decision". So we should know this week. (I'm not holding my breath.) IMO its time for him to move on.
P.S. The caller then asked Zorba how confident he was in Manly re-signing Choc for 2011 in view of the apparent interest in him by the Storm. Zorba said he wasn't confident at all (!!!), although Manly are focussed on re-signing both Choc & Glenn Stewart.
'"
looks like we should know one way or the other by tuesday. If he does come it'll certainly be a mrquee signing that a lot of people have been calling for and will put paid to some of moans about us not spending up to the cap or not able to pay for the top players anymore.

| Im not taking any notice of those figures.
What I don't understand is why so late in the off season, if he agrees to come, I am presuming the club would wait for Visa clearance and its going to be Feb/March by the time he is in training.
Its pretty obvious Deacon was part of next seasons plans earlier in the off season and from what I have heard, the Wigan deal is done.
It could all be a smoke screen for Brough and Inu

presumably its so late because the assumption was that orford was going to re-sign for manly and its only because thats dragged on so long that theres the possibility of him being available. your right about having to wait for a visa and it is a worry having a key playmaker not able to train with the squad until the seasons virtually started. Wonder if he can come over on a holiday visa, which Id assume come through quicker, and get a few training session in early
