You are travelling to us on sunday for michael lawrences testimonial , i cant see your media teams promoting the game as understandably they will want you all to turn up on Saturday and rightly so,
But for anyone who cannot make Saturdays game and fancies abit of rugby league as i understand you are still bringing some first teamers on Sunday ...

| I think the main 1st choice players are playing in the Dewsbury game but there will be enough for there to be a decent game on Sunday.

| Agreed. To be fair, I can't imagine either side putting out full first team squads at this time of year.

| The OP is right. Unless I'm missing it, our club are not promoting this game [iat all[/i.
Is this really just because we have a game the day before? I'd hate to think it was Chalmers taking another swipe at SL. That wouldn't be fair on Lawrence.
Maybe I'm wrong and it's really just up to Hudds to promote, but why was it arranged so close to another friendly anyway?

| I think the way the Yorkshire cup games fell would have been unknown when the other games were arranged. We'd already arranged a number of pre-season matches well before that competition was agreed so it's that which has really impacted on the Huddersfield game.

| I'd heard our media guy (Mr Spellcheck) had moved to pastures new. That might have an impact on publicity being done.

We don't seem to have a problem promoting the Saturday game...

Can’t see us spending any money promoting a game where we don’t get a share of gate. Saturdays game is shared gate so makes sense to promote it from a financial POV. Fair enough stick something on website and Twitter but that’s as far as I’d go. It’s hudds job to promote it if they want to and they’ll have a vastly bigger marketing budget.

You say that but had it not been for the OP providing the link you would not find any other mention of this game on the Giants website. Considering its a testimonial game too for Michael Lawrence I bet he's thrilled his own club are promoting it so heavily!!!
Its a shame when its benefiting someone who has given so much service to his club and the sport, but sadly I have no interest in this game at all. Instead I have far more interest in supporting those clubs shafted by Elstone and the rest of the SL chairmen in last seasons vote!!!

It would be unfair on Michael Lawrence but in any war innocent people end up in the cross fire. SL clubs caused this so it would be their fault.

| Very sad situation if Testimonials aren't being promoted out of petty feuds. Also sad if fans are agreeing with it.
Testimonial matches are supposed to be about rewarding long serving players and paying a tribute to them. Not about looking out for number 1 and pretending they aren't happening so our own pocket isn't affected. But such is the way the sport is these days, certainly at the Pro and Semi Pro level for the majority of clubs. Disappointing, but hardly surprising.
(Incidentally, I have seen Hudds promoting this via their Twitter account. It does seem like they could be doing a little more too though)

I genuinely can't remember if testimonials are normally promoted by both clubs, or usually just the club of the player in question. If it's standard practice for only one club to push it then fair enough.

| I think we learned in 2012 when most of the SL voted to keep our TV money and share it amongst themselves thus dooming Omar Khan to failure from the start that in the world of SL it’s dog eat dog. That’s the reality. We can try to be nice but when it comes down to it there are club owners out there that only care for themselves.
I wonder if there was anything in that League Express story a few weeks back that Ken Davy had enquired about buying the Odsal lease from the RFL? I’d suggest he’d be better served keeping his money and spending some more on the marketing dept of his own club.
The game needs a leader, people moaned about Richard Lewis a bit but he was light years ahead of his successors.

| Loads of enquiries trying to push up the value up to get it out of Chalmer's range is what they cynic in me is saying. They seem a little worried by our overly bombastic kiwi.
Carter - Check
Hudgell - Check
Davy - Check
Any bet's on who's next? Salford's Chairman is ruled out so....
Pearson - 3/1
McManus - 8/1
Leneghan - 10/1
Anyway, I can't do two games this weekend so if the OP can get Hudds to set up a just giving page or similar I'd be happy to throw a tenner in for the poor B*st*rd who's loosing out in these squabbles

The player always used to have a 'testimonial committee' which would organise events on his behalf, though it was always normal for the beneficiary's club to support him as best it could. Very few RL players leave the game with a fortune so it's pretty sad if they don't.
