| John Newlove was a little too involved....ruined a good day out at Wembley.
His son, Paul, had a lot to do with our great times under Peter Fox but, more importantly, was released to Saints for money and 3 useful players.

| Deryck Fox was my first ever favourite player.
I remember a Vaux billboard of him kicking a bomb as viewed through a pint of ale.

That's how FA viewed everyone of Deryck's games.

| Great articles PaulT thanks for the links. Good to see Fev keeping in touch with past greats like Foxy and Jimmy Thompson. I met Peter Fox a few years back and he was still a formidable presence.
Interesting that they both mention how the Bulls need to gel and that it takes time. Sunday’s game will be a stepping stone on the way to doing that and I expect a tough game.
I was chatting to our Academy head John Bastian the other day (he’s an ex Fev player) about the upcoming game and the many great ex Fev players of the recent past e.g. Fox, Hobbs, Newlove etc. They had a good side back in the 80s with them and the likes of Bibb, Steadman, Smales etc.

Thanks for the feedback Bullseye. We try our best to keep in touch with our ex players but it is something we could improve upon like many other clubs!
Please click on the link for Steve Evans - www.featherstonerovers.net/article.php?id=13499 . Tomorrow, we'll be chatting to Dale Fennell.

| Fantastic. I'll look forward to reading that. Paul Newlove was the best centre I ever saw. I know it didn't end well but he was brilliant to watch. I grew up watching Jimmy Thompson and Keith Brisges. I think Eddie Warinf called them the Thompson twins. And hurray for Davey Dobbs with five drives and a kick straight into touch.

| I think hobbs's greatest claim to fame at Odsal was when he was coach. He decided that, for pre season, instead of doing some weights and training by running around and throwing a ball about, it would be better if they went cycling round the dales, followed by some cycling up steep hills and then, as a change, do some long distance cycle tours.
I think we avoided relegation but it was a close call.
To be fair to Hobbsy, he was a damn fine player though.

| Going back to the seventies I seem to remember 2 centres ......Vaughan Thomas and Les Thomas .......I think one of them came from Fev.
Is there anybody out there that knows whether that is the case. Played inside Berwyn Jones I think.
