| rlConnor Murphyrl suggests so.
Until something is formally announced, I'll treat everything still as speculation. However, I'd be quite happy should this prove to be the case.
EDIT: just changed the thread title, given its more likely the article is to be read one or the other but not both...so see subsequent clarifications!

you really think so? I read that article as it was going to be one or the other not both. Cant see either being prepared to be assistant and also cant see us having money to pay two wages.
Out of the two I'd prefer Potter with only worry being his stated wish to return to Australia. Cant help thinking he's only interested in bulls job because their are no coaching vacancies in NRL and should one come up he'd be off leaving us to start over again.
Wouldnt mind mcdermott as think he's done a decent job at quins with limited resources and is probably the best english candidate. Interesting that bulls were unwilling to pay compensation for last year of kears contract, isnt mcdermott still under contract at quins for another year or do they have a replacement lined up already? | Yeah that article reads as one or t'other definitely.
I've said from the start I expected McDermott, and for the further development of our excellent youth system, it wouldn't be a bad choice. However from a first team point of view, Potter may well be the better choice.

one thought that has just struck me is mcdermott as coach with potter in a mentoring role until a he gets a suitable nrl post. might be a decent option

Decent option, yes. Financially viable option? I doubt it.

| Must admit I (probably wrongly, on closer reading) read it as both of them...if just one then we are back to the McDermott the best of the British possibilities, but unlikely to excite the fans as an appointment. Probably best for continuing the junior development though.
I'd be happy with Potter though for the first team, especially since we have some good guys already handling junior development. And if we were indeed able to sign an Aussie (almost certainly assistant) coach, it would probably be no different to what you suggest re Potter - first chance of a head coach job back home, he'd be off?

| I'd been fairly happy with McDermott but I've said all along that I'd like to see Potter at the Bulls. I would like to see a pretty firm commitment of 3 years or so. If Potter isn't willing to sign a 3 year deal and stick it out, perhaps McDermott will be the new man.
If we go with McDermott I'd like to see Lowes back at the club as assistant, a fresh start wouldn't appear to be a bad thing looking in from the outside.

| There WERE rumours from dahn sarth of Brian Mac moving to Bradford as assistant.
Maybe there IS scope for a deal for Potter AND Mac...with Mac the long-term bet once Mick gets a head coach job in Oz?
Hey, all speculation till we get an announcement. Sounds though like its up before t'board for imminent decision, given Connor has a good track record so far.

That would be a very strong coaching team but also a costly one. Given the tight budget of the last few years it does seem rather unlikely, but I'd be very pleased to see the above happen.

Indeed it would. Maybe you could argue that this year we had to spend a load on the new Tong facility which we would not have to (as much?) next year, so next year we similarly compromise and spend that bit of cash on coaching staff?
OK, clutching at straws and wishful thinking, I know...!

| We can hope! I said a while back that I'd like to see someone like Lowes brought in as well for an assistant role alongside an experienced coach. I'd be pretty surprised if McDermott stepped back down to assistant coach after his stint at Harlequins though.
We've been short on numbers on the coaching team for sometime now, so maybe have now addressed this weakness? I'd like to think so, but I won't get my hopes too high. The coffers must have taken another battering given some of our crowds this year.

| Potter would edge it for for me, but McDermott would be a good choice. I think either would offer a genuine improvement on McNamara - he's been at Odsal too long now and it is time for someone else to take over.
Hopefully you won't be getting the Sharp & St. Hilaire 'dream ticket' though (or maybe not from a Leeds perspective).

I'd have thought any extra cash ( if any ) would be used for players, maybe as an incentive for the new coach to show the club means business.

Or the amount of money available should be made clear to the new coach, who would then decide whether it should be spent directly on the playing squad or on his coaching staff?
