| I love coming over to your ground it is easy to get to no problem parking. It is far too big for rugby league and very outdated, Make it smaller bring the fans closer to the pitch and sort out the uneven playing field. Why were the gates not open to let fans in until 2 pm when there fans in thousands waiting outside and when they did open the turnstyles only opened one at each entrance. Why dont you let fans in early and make more money on food and soft drinks because there is nowhere near the ground apart from that pub across the road for us to go and not all fans want a pub. We ended going into the sports centre across the road for a cup ot tea .

| Glad you enjoyed your visit, but 'make it smaller'??
How exactly would you go about doing that then?

My guess is do a win-win deal with Tesco to redevelop the ground on the back of a big Tesco retail development. Like several other clubs have done, including Wire?
But hang on...didn't we try that, but for some strange reason - entirely coincidentally at the time BCFC were desperate to secure additional income at Valley Parade - the politicians put paid to it? Summat to do with Tesco having a non-food component, and the city "centre" being thereby threatened? In the way that the Matalan on the nearby Morrisons Mayo Avenue site, the Tesco up Great Horton Road and the massive impending redeveloped Tesco on Canal Road seemingly do not?

| I wonder what 'wire women' meant by 'sorting out' the uneven playing field?
Bet Mick G would be willing to help out here!

| Didn't Ken Morrison object to the Tesco development and never puts any money back into the city!

That's a myth.
The proposal included out of town retail space which, supposedly, was against Government policy at the time - it was automatically referred for a Government inquiry because of this, at which point Tesco pulled out because they didn't want the cost and time associated with that.

| So they said.
Funnily enough they got the Canal Road and Gt Horton Road developments through shortly afterwards.

| Well if you aren't fit enough or prepared to walk more than 100 metres then the pub across the road is your lot. BTW what exactly is there near the Halliwell Jones except er pubs?

Firstly, because the club did not own the ground. The council did.
Secondly, because TWO major council/club proposals to redevelop the ground came to naught, because the developers pulled out or could not deliver.
Thirdly, the club took over a long leasehold on the ground several years ago. And spent I think it was pushing £2m on work on the ground. Where do you think the Coral Stand at the other end came from? Bulls paid for that. But the club has no wealthy backer, and does not have anything like the funds for building new stands. Never did have. It needs partners, and - unlike you, Saints, Wigan, Salford (soon) etc we were not allowed a retail partner. Nor did our council have a telecoms company to sell, or the club a cricket ground to sell.
Fourthly, what you called our "heyday" lasted but a few years, and over that time the club at best broke even. Very few RL clubs ever make sustained profits - your has not - and so cannot generate the funds internally for major stadium works. You need either a rich owner - ideally a property developer - or a major supermarket - to be able to do that.
Finalyy, you would still be at Wilderspool if it was not for Tesco. Your rugby club company is technically insolvent - it was not that from which any funding came. So please don't lecture us about that subject. Tesco effectively built you a stadium. That did not happen for us. That was your good fortune, and good luck to you - you deserved a break after some years of going through what we now are.
As for "answers to yesterday's problems", why the hell are you asking us? Some of our fans had the same experience. Try asking the club?

I don't know what's more embarrassing, you utter lack of idea about your own club's history and financial situation, or your inexplicably calling a detailed explanation - which seeing as you are oblivious to the facts was actually a favour to you - a "rant".

| Quite how parts of a city that receives inner city development grants can also be subject to out of town planning requirements will always remain a mystery to me.
