Groat should definitely have been a red and having watched the replay the ref saw it as he said something. It's amazing that the touch judge had to speak to him so many times before he even gave us a penalty.

Putting that tackle on Baile on report was a cop out too and the ref also failed to deal with their number 15 when he acted up in the second half. Went missing though when Addy grabbed him and avoided every carry and every tackle after that.

The SL sides are in for a shock in a few weeks time if they think the refereeing is poor in SL! Do we know whether we will see a return of the in goal touch judge for the middle 8's?

Depends if its on TV or not I suppose, but expect inconsistency with the games that are and arent as per.


Neither results help us but as it was so one sided i will let it slide, if we had maybe lost that game against a better team, and the ref called both so wrong id expect some fines coming jimmys way, needs to be stepped up, if its bad enough to go on report it should be a yellow at the minimum, so at least the team has benefit at the time otherwise whats the point.

I'm assuming they'll use half and half with the SL and championship refereeing teams - it's not as though they have plenty others spare, I guess.

This leaves the obvious problem of in-goal officials, though I can't imagine they'll just use in-goal judges in the all SL games and not in the others [or maybe I can, if I'm honest..] - that would be just ludicrous and it would take even the RFL to a new level of idiocy. So I guess it means dropping them altogether or beefing up the officiating teams at the other games. Toss a coin, anyone, 'cos I suspect they won't have even considered it?

And that clown we had at Leigh, Joe Cobb has been made a full time super league ref

He's in the complete waste of space club with Child's and Hicks

I actually think Joe did quite well in the two super league games he has reffed recently. Admittedly they weren't the most intense matches I've ever seen, but he controlled them well and was largely invisible. Which for a referee is a compliment.

I think he's absolute crap

I went to watch Batley and London last night, Jamie Bloom was ref and I thought he had a very good game. I think the fact he is an ex player was no coincidence. There was a few high shots but he only pulled the ones that were really obvious not the ones that were on the chest and ended up fairly high and I think that was because he has played the game.

If Hicks, Childs are Cobb are some of the best we are in big trouble

Don't think any are the 'finished article' as yet and I agreed that Cobb totally 'lost it' in the game at Leigh, but he refereed well in the later, less 'intense' games which, just like a kid in the academy, suggests he's still on a learning curve. I guess that's just the way it is in the lower divisions. For my two pennorth, much of the blame goes to the referees' controller, who picked someone who wasn't ready for the job, rather than just the man in the middle.

To be fair, I think we should give them a chance and, whilst I'll always reserve the right to criticise, I wouldn't pull on that ref's jersey for all the tea in China, so they'll always get the credit for that.

Why does it take so long for these things to be heard?

It seems grossly unfair that Gaskell was quite badly injured by that deliberate elbow (watch the incident on Bulls TV)
and we were deprived of his and Bailles services for the Dewsbury game, whilst Doncaster played both men for the trip to London.
It's almost as if the RFL view offences in the championship less damaging than SL?
