| From the Bulls Facebook page
Quote: "Bradford Bulls have suffered two major injury setbacks ahead of the new season with the news that both Scrum Half Luke Gale and Back Row Forward John Bateman will undergo surgery over the next few days.
Gale will have an operation on the ankle he damaged whilst will the England Knights on Wednesday and will miss the next eight weeks whilst Bateman will have a shoulder reconstruction on Monday and will be out for twelve weeks.
Gale had his foot immobilised immediately after suffering the injury but further scans have now revealed he needs an operation. It is not the same ankle he damaged last season. Bateman initially injured his shoulder at the end of last season and the prognosis was that rest would heal the injury but on resuming contact the problem flared up again and surgery is now considered necessary.
Bulls Coach Francis Cummins is disappointed with the news
It does mean they miss pre-season but both should hopefully be fit by the 3rd game in.

| We seem to take this sort of chance too often and then end up short at start of season.

What chance? the chance of following medical advice? We can't force players to have operations if that is not what their consultants say they should do. As for Gale, what do we do, say he's not allowed to play for the Knights or anyone else? Not sure what chance it is you think we've taken.

Whoa there. Should have quoted the Bateman bit as I was referring only to that . I am sure there was a similar happening around this time last year. So perhaps the medics got it wrong again. OK. Cannot force players to have an Op. OK. Pattern building up here. OK - er I hope not.But I think I am allowed to comment.

Whoa there, I never said or suggested you couldn't. That's all I did, after all; commented on your comment! Perhaps I made my point badly. It is that I don't know of any reason to suggest that either
a) bad medical advice was given or
b) players were advised to have surgery but the club did not act on that advice.
And think any such suggestion is treading on thin ice, unless people can back it up, but that's just what I think. When you say "perhaps the medics got it wrong again", are you saying they got it wrong before? When?
We certainly have been plagued with ludicrously bad luck with injuries for seasons now, and sadly it's looking as if little has changed, but in the absence of any evidence to the contrary, I'm not sure what the club is supposed to do about it. Does anybody know a good, reliable shaman?

| As I said , I am sure something similar happened around this time last year, ie "thought it would mend but didnt". Tried to get info from last years posts but gave up. One thing certain FA, we are batting for the same team. Frustrating to get these problems. Here's a thought: I have supported Northern & Bulls since 1978 - back in the day, we didnt get too much info on what was happening. Now we all feel able to get involved. But in a good way of course. Pl keep up the good work.

| Sorry folks, my fault about Gale. In a previous posting I said he was croaked and would not start the session. Not guilty about Bateman though. I shall in future refrain from commenting on Bulls player's fitness/injury but I shall start commenting on other SL teams injury problems, you never know......

| Gale tweeted he hopes to be back for round 1 and Bateman is a young lad, he should heal fast.

| This may force FC's hand and he may realise he needs a prop and another hb/sh to cover

FC has already been quoted saying that he won't commit to signing a player that won't improve the squad. You can read that as saying there's naff all out there.
I would certainly struggle to name an ooc/potential loanee half back who would actually be worth paying. An obvious prop choice would be Mason, but signing him might be tricky if he has some inflated wage demands.
