I wanted to be a new sports car recently. I dont need the car, I know it will cost me money but feel that it will be of benefit to me and my family and add something back to the economy.

I went to Basils Garage to buy the make and model I wanted. He was very unhelpful and advised they dont want to sell their card to anybody. Certainly not Riff Raff.

He insisted that i provide him with a reference, copies of my driving licence and Insurance as well as an assurance that under no circumstances would I crash the car.

I saw the model I needed, it turned out to be second hand. I noticed that the engine was missing. Basil said the previous owner had sold them the engine. I asked could they put it back as the car was useless without it. Basil was not pleased with this and muttered something around a conditional sale.

I was getting worried now that Basil didnt want to sell me the car. I said come on I have the cash here ready to go. Surely you want the car on the road. Basil was not too sure.

He then said in any case whilst he would take my money he may in fact sell me a bike. I said hold on I want a car not a bike. Basil again said somethig about a conditional sale. As he would not sell me the engine and would only confrim I would either have a car or a bike at the date of sale i said no thanks and left.

I turned to wave goodbye to Basil who was now hitting the car with a branch saying "you are a very bad car"

But secretly, you wanted to buy the car with monopoly money, turn it in to a mobile curry house, then sell it a few years later for a tidy profit.

Basil was wise to this. Clever Basil.

That and Basil had dealings with you before and knew you weren't to be trusted. Basil's mates are also scared of you...

the problem was you had the cash but only after you had taken out a loan from basil's parent company and hadn't made a single repayment, basil didn't want to end up with no cash, no car and eventually no garage either.......

Basil also asked if he could see the cash up front and also asked to see proof that you could afford to put petrol in the car and afford to service and mot it for the next two years. When the buyer didn't do this Basil got suspicious that you might just strip the car down and use it for spare parts.

Can you confirm if you would be paying for the car up front or over the course of 5,10 or 20 years interest free?

Or, perhaps, that Basil had no issues with you personally, but knew that you were secretly acting on behalf of that other guy...

Very sad circumstances though...

It seems Basil wanted to keep the car for himself, well maybe in his wife's name..

What if basil put the engine back in, gave it a kickstart, sorted the bodywork and got it and nice and shiny..would you ask to buy it at a higher price, or would you pop down the road, buy one with an average engine, good bodywork tho, but the wheels keep falling off.
