| From the stand, against the sun, blocked by 3 players and some steamed up glasses, I could see with 100% certainty that it was a try. I also knew that toerag Child wouldn't give it. In fact i called a dozen or so things 100% right all game, by the end the chap next to me thinks I'm Nostradamus.
He was particularly impressed when with 2 minutes of the first half left, I told him Child would penalise us down the field, and if Cats couldn't score with seconds to go then he'd round it off with a penalty under the posts. He never lets me down.

| I thought at first view from behind the sticks that he may have bounced it. See them given most weeks where no video ref is there, but was a little surprised he chalked it off.

| It looked a try to me. Child was very quick to disallow it. He could have maybe consulted the in goal judge who had a better view. But no.

Why would he ask a guy whose actual job is to see and judge these sort of things, though?

| Paradoxically it would have had a far better chance of being awarded if the game was on Sky
It would have been sent to the video ref, and they quite often find what Stevo refers to as 'fingertip control'.
But at full speed, with no replays, I don't blame Childs for not giving it.

| You need to make your minds up whether you want a referee to make a decision when he is certain, or refer everything to assisitants or VR. From the 2 games I watched over the weekend the ref certainly seems to have speeded up the decision making.

I think everyone seems to agree that they would just like consistency. Obviously there was no VR to consult, but it would have taken 2 seconds for Child (who was behind the action) to ask the in goal judge (who was directly in front) if it was a try. Or else what is the point of having them there?

I assume for when he is not sure. As I said, on the televised games the ref seemed to just momentarily glance at the touchies before awarding, which I assume is a directive from the RFL. Which seems consistent, unless they start with 5 minute VR adjudications to excite the TV public.

I am all for speeding up the game, and, if Child was sure then fair enough. But he was not as well placed as one of the other officials to make that call.
I think it changed the game, had that been given, then we would have gone on to lose by slightly less than we did.

we were stood behind sticks and it was a 50/50 call. wouldnt have hurt childs to consult the in goal official who had a better view but wouldnt have been surprised if he disallowed it too.

We need to see a replay of it. Maybe the Super League show will replay the incident tonight?
