| right, now that sammut is confirmed, the general opinion is its a good signing, we are only presuming that herbert will not be kept on now.
remember i got slated last week for suggesting we should get rid of herbert, which if we had kept him that would mean our intentions would be to be happy for fighting for 9th or 10th place next year
are peoples opinions different now, do people still want herbert, or are the new signings(which we presume are replacements for herbert, dont know whos playing 6 or 7) better options and offer that spark we clearly havent got this season

| There is no doubting hes ''jack-in-a-box'' style attack, he can create something out of nothing quite a lot of the time. BUT he needs serious work on his defence... likewise does Gale.
all we can say really is we will have to wait and see.... I will go for Gale at 6 and sammut at 7??

| i was for keeping Herbert if nothing better was available , i think we've got something better ( thou ill put a caveat on consistency , not that Herbert was ) but you never know we might keep him , we might keep them all, Half backs could be the new Full backs , which was the new 2nd rower

| The answer is still no. Herbert offers a great deal more than some people give him credit for. He's certainly a better defender than either Gale or Sammut and he's growing into a leadership role on the field.
It seems that it's between him and Ah Van as to who stays and who goes.

| I think he is our best half back and would like him to stay, however, he must be going. Gale and sammut have come in and jeffries is tied up so cant see him staying even if we let briggs go.
I think this has become a little of a cluster fk tbh. the one half back who has shown the most promise looks like they will leave due to contract lengths.

unless we do sign this Joel Moon - then we need to free up 2 spots for Sammut and him.
they could both leave.
I can't see that we'd sign 2 new half backs and keep Herbert - so my moneys on him going. personally I'd sooner have Herbert than Gale but there you go.

| if we now have gale to kick i would keep herbert instead of unfit ah van who is often off the boil and blowing out of his bum after the first 15 mins of a game. if ah van is to stay he needs to seriously work on his fitness
i think with the right restraints placed on him by potter sammutt could do very well, his unpredictability needs to be tamed tho!

Well yes, I agree Herbert is the likely candidate to be leaving given that if he stays we'll have 6 half backs. 7 really, if you include Kearney

agree with you except channelled rather than tamed. any thoughts on replacement for AV if he is going and wing options generally? How is Finnegan doing these days?

| I'd prefer Herbert over sammut as herbert takes more of a organising role. Not saying sammut isn't a better player, but for me theirs no decent organiser in team now. It wasnt strongest part of herberts game but he was best we had. We ate now relying on Jeffries or gale to provide that direction and that doesn't fill me with confidence tbh. We've basically got 4 standoffs in the squad( plus southernwood who isn't ready by all accounts).

doesnt address problem of whos going to organise team though does it? I've no problem losing herbert or bringing sammut in. just cant see who the on field general is going to be. Gale and Jeffries are both limited in what they can do in that area IMO.
