| There is absoulutely no doubt about it Steve Mac is the best man the job in the clubs current situation, i can stress enough to people how cruitial it is that he is here next season and for several seasons to come, he is building a legacy at bradford and has little resources to do so, his efforts are outstanding, after some of those defeats last season mainly due to useless players who are no longer at the club i dread to think how he must have felt, at times i have too wondered if it has been time to get a new coach however i have come to realise how ridiculous it would be and a terrible misjudgement for the Bulls board to not sign him on a new contract, almost in fear of how the so called fans will react, i really want people to understand how important Steve is to the future sucess of the club and hope he gets a new deal!

How close are you to the club?
You will already know I have considerable sympathy with what you say.

I just can't agree that there's no man better for the job.
If people disagree with your statement are they just so called fans?

You are Macca's agent and I claim my £5 award.
FFS... "absolutely no doubt", "I cant stress enough" and "I really want people to understand"
Rhetoric without reasoning.

| Well I saw the first swallows at the weekend. TBH you haven't beaten anyone I wouldn't have expected you to beat pre-season given that you finally have a world class scrum half & a couple of other quality signings. As I said at the time (or was it Macca) the Wigan victory did more for confidence than any training session, given that most (me included) expected you to lose after Wigan's start to the season. I think if Leeds had come back & snatched victory that could have knocked you back severely. Those proclaiming Macca as the second-coming have to acknowledge that half the coaches in SL are operating under he same pressures as Macca (I awiat the 'I don't know what pressures he was really operating under' comments, just as not many know this of any coach), some with much less-talented squads & have achieved more to date. Looking at the fixture list to the end of season I could see you losing only 5 more games - dependent on cup run, injuries to key players & confidence. A place in the top 5 would be a major achievement, as it is I expect you to be fighting with Hull for sixth. Then we can fairly judge Macca, not after 11 games.

| Well TT it's very easy to blame the Coach all the time when things are not right, but on the field the Players have to take some of the blame when things do go wrong. even Langers admitted some of the problems on field were down to the players.
I hope that Macca does stay and see through a legacy he has started (with the help of others) with the Bulls and see them compete at the top level again consistently.
Nobby coming back and saving the Bulls is pure pie in the sky blinkered thinking.
He should have done better at Pieland but considering the Pantomime politics of Uncle Mo and DW then being lumbered with Lenighan who didn't like his style he did well enough to make it easier for McGuire to take them on.
At Crusaders he has accepted a real challenge of bringing them on and he is doing a great job for them and being appreciated for it. He won't be coming back to the Bulls sometime soon.
The England job is just a useful bluff for Macca in getting a decent new contract off Peter Hood and I don't blame him. He's had 4 yrs of being put through the wringer along with the supporters, so I think we all deserve an upturn in good fortune!

Mate im an 18 year old fan who thinks this is what should happen - im not steves agent, you probably just not used to people being able to write a couple of sentences, and in reply to the other comment no it doesnt make you a so called fan, this is my opinion and i think there are a lot of naive fans who need to see the bigger picture, i very much doubt we will get a world class replacement so what is the point

Never liked Kevin Costner, or any other Robbing Hood!!!!: |

| the financial situation is managed by the board and Steve or whoever works within that. the steps forward that are deemed to have been made this season could so easily have been removed if Hall didnt score against Wigan, and Leeds had taken both points. The malaise in the club and the city is evident that people are hailing as brilliant a coach who has us 7 points off the pace in the league with a third of the season gone.
There are better coaches out there. Steve has done an OK job under different circumstances than those before him had, but the success of the first team is what a club's success is measured by. IMO we are only 2 injuries away from being just as bad as last year. Did Steve get rid of clogger and BAsil, or did Hood? Who brought Geoff Evans in???
I will not shed a tear either way, if he stays or goes. All i know is that because his contract is up, we should as a club be looking for the best way forward. If that is seen to be Steve then so be it. But one thing is guaranteed by our financial situation, that is whoever gets whatever contract will have it as long as they want it as we cannot afford to sack them, and that cannot be good!

Or, if you prefer a half-full glass as opposed to a half-empty one:
Had we taken the additional point at Leeds - as we so easily could have (just one more kick going over, nothing more than that even...) and had we not been stricken by lurgy and so ran out of steam at Hull, but taken the points there (for example) then we would have been joint second. And THEN what progress would we have been talking about? And had we played Hudds after the team had had time to gel more and taken the points we narrowly missed out on there, then we would have been clear second.
If.
We are back to Auntie + Balls = Uncle. But your argument can work both ways!
Incidentally, there are not many hailing Macca as a "Brilliant Coach", or suggesting there are no better alternatives if we had a Moran or a Davy or a Lenaghan in the cupboard. But what I do observe is that we seem to have a lot more realists now, prepared to consider the situation a bit more objectively.

| get your point Adey. what is interesting would be to see how many out of work coaches there are who would bring more to the table. unemployed and looking for work means we hold the most bargaining chips. In post and wanted by England gives steve the upperhand.
is there a nrl equivalent of the LMA website, which lists all out of work managers looking for a job in football?

I hope you aren't suggesting that I have ever proposed sacking Macca &/or bringing back Noble. The first I don't think I have ever done (though I have taken the pi ss regularly), the second I have definitely never done. I will repeat what I have said many times, I first met Macca as a young player (1992 tour), along with Darryl Powell he stood out from the rest as someone genuinley interested & concerned for the fans; I thought then he would make a good coach, I still do. To date he has done little to show he is much more than that.
Regarding players taking some blame, I put that one with the 'it's the sign of a good team when you still win but played badly' statement in the dustbin. Consistent poor/under performing is down to the coach.

Hooray to all of that Adey.
We are no longer the Mr. Moneybags of the Caisley/Noble era; what we are is solvent and living within our means(which is more than a few clubs can say) and you're right, more people are beginning to realise it, so Ill give an extra 'hooray' for that.
As someone who has stood behind the coach all along, I don't know whether he is a "brilliant" coach either (neither am I qualified to judge, btw but I do know he's pulling the club round from the abyss, and having spoken to him, I believe him to be a genuine and sincere bloke who is busting a gut on the club's behalf. He is also a guy who deserves our support.
I, for one, hope Steve stays at the club. Maybe there are others who could take the club forward, there probably are, I really don't know, but we seem to be on the right track and I think that Steve would be the best person to finish the job he's started.

| For me, it's a head and heart issue with McNamara
My head says that Macca has done a good job in what has been a hard period for the club in terms of the financial situation. I understand that the club are rebuilding and this is not an over night job.
But my heart says the club should still be challenging for honours and that Macca should go based on the amount of poor performances that the team have produced under his leadership.
