He's been very influential when we've played you lot this year, and he'll sure us up down the middle so we dont have a load of little men.
Only 29 so still fair few years in him yet, also seems to have dampened down his aggression.
Genuine opinions on how he's gone this season, and how he'll fair for us?

He has definitely dampened down the aggression, however he isn't the same player for it.
If he is in form, he can win a game for you. Can be very influential and an excellent player. His form though has been erratic of late. If he has a bad game, he tends to get lost and mess up quite a bit of the team's play.
It's literally one of those "When he's good, he's very good. When he's bad, he's very bad".

| Good luck to him
It'll probably come back to bite us in the future - but, still, I still think a 2 year deal wouldn't have been right

I don't know if you need shoreing up down the middle but theres not much wrong with what you have, do you need a hooker?
If it works don't fix it in my opinion. Good win against Sts last night and you nearly did one over on Leeds last week, you probably should be going for younger players in my opinion. But the club seems to be in capable hands with Kear so i'd think he likely knows what he's doing.

| He's still a decent hooker and I am sure he'll go ok for Wakefield. I don't feel we have consistently seen the best from him though and I'm not too worried about seeing him depart.
Interesting that the Bulls didn't actually offer him a deal (according to the podcast) wonder if there were other reasons for this?

We offered a year I believe. Terry wanted two.

| Worse kept secret really. He is a quality player but not the as good as he once was. I'm not too bothered to see him go. Think we have a better all round replacement in Monsieur L'Estrange.

Yeah I read that in the T&A but on the pod cast Newton said that the Bulls didn't actually put in an offer. Now whether that was because they knew he wanted more than a year.. I don't know.

| I've got the highest regard for Kear and how he motivates players but also how he fits their talents into game plan.
Seems like he doesnt design an infexible game plan that the players are forced into, rather ceates a plan that fits their talents ( obviously within a parameter)
As wakey are not short of game controllers, it will be interesting to see what role he expects Newton to take.

| This is up there with the biggest mistakes the clubs made in recent history.

He's 30. But I still think he's a good signing for you and yes his aggression isn't what it was and imo it's taken part of Newtons game with it.

Why? If we had released one of the best players in SL then I might agree, but we haven't. So why do you feel it is one of the biggest mistakes in recent history?

Because he's the only one we have on the pitch atm that's got a real tactical rugby brain.

| tbh think newton will come back to bite us next year but I feel we've made the right call in not offering more than a year. would rather he went while he's still playing at a decent level rather than watching him decline like we're currently experiencing with deacs.
Think we've got a potentially very good replacement in l'estrange. Watching leeds wcc game he controlled game very well and gives dome speed round the ruck, which is something weve missed for a while.
