I understand he may feel aggrevied with a few controversial decisions but this guy sure does like to whinge.
Maybe he has just read AP's song about him
I suppose it makes a change from most coaches calling for them to be used at ALL matches

| Should this thread not be renamed, "McNamara, Banana Video Refs"?

I'm glad to hear he's said he's going to shut up about refs next season. I was getting sick of hearing about it. It's the sort of thing you hear from coaches who are losing their grip. It does him no credit at all.
As for his proposal to get rid of video refs there is absolutely no chance of this happening.

| Must say though.. I agree. I think the use of video ref's is starting to have a negative effect on the game. I certainly don't want to be stood waiting 5 mins for a decision at a non televised game and not even be able to make my own mind up on the legality of the try.
The full time ref's are getting video ref decisions wrong.. so how bad will it be with a non FT ref at the controls if they implement them at all matches?

Hard not to agree with any of that IMHO. I was talking about the self and same the other week with a mate / came up with the following instances.
I'm sure the following could be replicated to some degree by every other club in Super League. . . . but wouldn't that just serve to strengthen the point?
I've not posted these as a whinge (honest . . . but life is unfair at times

You've also got the problem of video refs directing the man on the field through his earpiece which is supposed to be illegal.
Though TBH I think it's a problem with the general standard of officiating full stop and that comes from the Sod Hall down.
How can you have players given a lesser ban for an offence in Superleague (Hock grabbing hold of the ref) to a lesser offence in NL1 (Handforth mouthing off at the ref) to players given lifetime bans for catching the refs eye in BARLA.
The whole thing needs an overhaul with proper assessment and accountability for everyone including the executive.

and, IMHO, Scumming being held [iaccountable [/ifor what he's done.
How can ANYONE even attempt to try defend the indefensible that is Scummings.
People used to bleat on about Greg McCallum (sp?) but things were far more transparent / better run from a spectator point of view.
(I do seem to feel rather strongly about this, don't I. . . . .

| No video decision should ever take five minutes. Sadly, it is slowing the game down, and sometimes I do wonder if these video refs are out to stop tries being scored.
The decision that really irritates me is the interpretation of obstruction, which was perfectly illustrated on 'Boots and All' the other week. The defending playr clearly had no intention of attempting to cover the opposing player and was deliderately looking for an obstruction decision which he got. All sides have had perfectly good tries ruled out by absurd obstruction decisions.

| The thing what I will say, which is credit to McNamara's arguement is that nowadays, the video referees seem to looking to disallow the try, rather than find a reason to give it. This adds a total negative aspect to the game, and what good does this do the game if we're going to have this at EVERY match?
However, it is pleasing to hear Macca say he'll stop moaning about refs, as that is getting tiresome!

| Well hopefully it won't happen due to the cost.. I doubt the RFL can force clubs to contribute and I am sure we have much better uses of 40K per club or whatever figure it is supposed to be.

I'd love to know what happened with McCallum!! I have to agree that whilst there were issues under him we had far more progression in the positive direction with him than with Cummings.
