| It's being reported across social media that Peter Fox, one of our greatest ever coaches, has died aged 85.
Without a doubt one of the greatest man-managers and motivators we have ever seen. Who could forget the way he coaxed performances out of some pretty average players?
Let's share our Peter Fox stories, I'm sure there are plenty...

| Amazing coach, some of the old timers and bit part players he signed regularly turned into legends.
It still pishes me off that I'd actually booked to go on the Australian tour in a group with Peter Fox as "tour guide", when the Superleague wars kicked ff and the fekkin thing was cancelled. I have never forgiven the Aussies since - would've been the trip of a lifetime.
RIP Peter. A true gent and a real legend

| Terribly sad news. Was lucky enough to watch his teams and the success he brought us.His ability to get the best out of average players was terrific. His teams always had a never say die attitude and when we did get beaten you always came away thinking we had given it our best shot and could have done no more.A real sad day in our history. Thanks for the memories Peter.

| Sad to hear that news.
Peter was the best. Great coach great guy. Great storyteller too, so I've been told.
The one story about him personally was the one where the fan, after seeing the team lose, told Foxy they'd been rubbish and demanded his admission money back. Peter pulled some money out of his own pocket and gave to to him. One in a trillion.

| Unbelievable coach Bradford won back to back championships under foxy, like people said brough the best out of ordinary average players, and made the good players fantastic, I recall peters only regret at Bradford in his first stint was not been able to get Steve knocker Norton there, they would have conquered the game had he got his wish, rest well foxy you gave me memories to see me out

| Our greatest ever coach. No one won more trophies with less money. He made average players good and good players great. The first coach I ever watched in 78 when we once had to play something like 5 games in a week due to a fixture backlog and injury crisis but we still made the top 8. A couple of years later we won back to back championships. As GB coach he came very close to beating the Aussies in a test series. He left us and came back when we looked doomed to be relegated and saved us in the last game of the season. I think it was the year after that we lost the championship on points difference. No one ever got more out of their players. Rest in peace Sir Peter.

| R.I.P. Peter, one story, I remember it still today. I'd been picked to play in the U19's against Cas. Even before we kicked off most of us were " worried" to say the least. Knocker Norton was coming back from an injury and he, plus a couple of 1st teamers were against us. By half time most of us just wanted to go home, but in the shed the winger of ours was being called all the names under the sun. Someone said " he's a bloody coward" which really was not fair on the young lad. What we didn't know, Foxy had popped into the dressing room and was at the back, listening.. When he heard that, he exploded. "There's no such bloody thing as a coward in rugby league" some players are just nicer than others" We went out and played much better and the winger saved 2 certain tries.. Foxy could inspire anyone, from the lowest to the highest.. I remember all this, because I scored my one and only try in Northern colours. After, he said to me,"nice try laddie" I felt 10 foot tall.. sadly for me, I'd hurt my back and played just 2 more games then chose my job over Rugby.( played amateur though for 20 years) R.I.P. to a great Guy.

| Unfortunatley being 24, Peter Fox was just before my time. However my Grandad has always said he was a fantastic bloke and brilliant coach. To echo most on here, got the team playing for each other. Even as part of the younger generation the legend of Foxy has never been forgotton. RIP. I hope the club renames a stand for him at least!

| Didn't we only get Paul Newlove from Feath because Newlove was besotted with Foxy and was determined to follow him.
Wasn't it also Peter who introduced the tradition of taking players that Leeds had told were no longer any good (Dave Heron, Paul Dixon etc), many of who inevitably went on to show Leeds how wrong they were.

| Where to begin.
Peter Fox was the coach as my time as a Northern fan. He won us an unprecedented two league titles in a row. I looked up to him enormously and used to pour over his programme notes and listen attentively to any word he uttered on the radio. He had an amazing talent for getting the best out of average players. When I met him in person I could see why. He had an ability to make you feel good about yourself and his confidence in what he said made you feel confident too. You can see why players played above themselves for him. If you could bottle and sell that ability you’d be a millionaire.
I was disappointed when he left us in 1985 and overjoyed when he came back in 1992. Without doubt we would’ve gone down that year if it wasn’t for him. I remember he was newly arrived as coach and sat in the stand at Burnden Park when we got thrashed 71-10 by Wigan in the cup semi final and we looked doomed. Within weeks he’d sorted our defence out and bit by bit we got ourselves out of the mire, culminating in a heart stopping, nail biting 14-12 win at Hull KR that kept us up. Fox saved us without doubt. Nobody else could’ve got that kind of response from the players in such a short period of time. Within a couple of years we just missed out on the title on points difference. We had been transformed.
I remember it was back in 2008 when Peter was up at Odsal doing a book signing for his newly published biography in the club shop before the SL game versus HKR. I went in and there he was sat at a little table in the corner, all alone. A few people were hovering around but they looked a bit awe-struck. I went over and asked if he’d sign me a book. He couldn’t have been more charming. I said “It’s fitting you’re here today when we’re playing Hull KR because 16 years ago you coached us against them and kept us in the top flight.” He puffed his chest out, looked around and said “Aye! And there’s a few around here that have forgotten about that!” I was pleased to then see a few people come forward and re-assure him that hadn’t been forgotten at all.
Looking at all the comments on social media you can see how admired, respected and loved Peter Fox was. He was a guru amongst coaches, a leader of men and Rugby League through and through. I must confess to having a lump in my throat writing this.
RIP Foxy, thanks a million, you were the best.

| Brian McDermott too.
We’d never have got Deryck Fox or Paul Newlove either had Foxy not been our coach.
