got me thinking, Wigan board had a players who didn't achieve their potential post and got a lot of mentions for likes of ainscough and Pryce... so taking away Karl Pryce for obvious reasons and not as a thread to slate just players who seemed to have a better rep than deserved or player who you felt could have achieved more?

Got to go with the post above. Tame Tupou had it all as we saw at Brisbane too. If ever there was a perfect replacement for Les he was it, didn't he start well enough too 10 try's in 9 games I think.

Another one for me was Shane Rigon, but that was more on the side of only getting 12 months out of him. Quality player

John Woods - Only played with us for a season and a half before we cashed in on him Had a few really good games but I don't think we ever saw the best of him.
Terry Holmes - Blighted by injury but when he was fit he really looked the part, especially at loose forward.
Logan Swann - Came with a big reputation but didn't show much.
Toa Kohe Love - Injured played about 3 times IIRC.

Disagree with John Woods as I remember him scoring miraculous tries and breaking goal kicking records.I do,though, wish he had been with us longer.Mercurial imo.

*****Garry Van Bellen*****Thought he was gonna be the next coming.

That game Woods scored 5 tries 8 goals versus Swinton. 36 points. Record stood until this season when Chisholm beat it versus South Wales. I think Woods achievement was better as it was in the top flight then.

While that was a great performance that season was a disaster, we nearly got relegated. We started well the season after but then went on a huge losing run and he was sold to Wire. I think Seabourne signed him with thoughts of him linking up with Hanley but of course Hanley took his bat home icon_sad.gif

Gary Van Bellen was a big nowt really.

David Solomona. Not helped by shoulder injuries. Always seemed to play better against us.
Craig Richards, brother of Basil. One great game against Wigan, but never really seemed to reach his full potential.

Craig Richards is a good shout. He looked devastating in the early part of the 90/91 season and made a few appearances that year but never really kicked on and he was gone a couple of years later. Wonder what happened there. He was massive unit and really quick.

Solomona I thought was good for us in 2007 but deteriorated like the rest of the team under McNamara as budgets were cut and we replaced quality players with poor ones. I also did wonder whether he always gave 100%. Frank Endacott was scathing about him in his biography and said he always took short cuts in training. He could certainly turn it on when he wanted to.

Craig Richards was similar to Garry Van Bellen, both really looked the part but didn't realise their true potential.I remember Craig scoring a superb try away at Oldham if my memory is correct, sidestepping the full back to go under the sticks.

Add Ryan Hudson to that list.

Karl Pryce was a toothless lion during his first stint at the club. He had all the attributes but no heart, massive waste of talent. Glenn Hall was another one who never really got going but he had some awful stuff going on off the field during his stint at Odsal which obviously impacted on his game.
