| What happened to make Patton lose the plot? I missed that.
I also missed who sparked the Batley player leading to the yet-another-20m-out penalty, I also missed why another 20m out penalty was given for a high shot when the tackler looked to be around the attackers ankles?
I make it a point to never bag the refs but for the first time since the sniper took out Joynt I left the ground wondering about the refs impartiality.
We lay on, set restarted, but at times when Batley were defendingd it looked like Union there were that many of them laying on, diving on and generally looking for a good cuddle.
Saying that though. When will the eejits learn you don't need to score off every bloody tackle? Fine work from Holmes to get the ball back 20 m from the Batley line and what do we do? Run the ball in and consolidate? No, too sensible, sling two long balls to the left and get put into touch...stupid school boy errors.
As someone mentioned above we were clearly the better side and were making 20-30m more per set (when we could be 4r5ed completing the set) but we kept coming up with new and innovative ways to hand the ball back to Batley when we could have ground them down?
Credit to Batley, they put the ref in their back pocket and knew exactly how to play him but even with the weakened side and shorter turn round we handed them the game, rather than them beating us.

Pollsters doing Excellent job - say recent polls.: |
|
| On the plus side - Myers has come through the academy, played at right centre and I would say had a decent 7/10 performance on his debut. Didn't look out of place. Well done. Should be more opportunities in the future.
Gill was quiet. Don't know why. Scurr was immense, again. Holmes also. I'm really looking forward to seeing his talent in the halves.
Is there an argument for Billy Jowitt on the wing? He did it for a short time vs Halifax. I wasn't that impressed with Foggin-Johnson yesterday.

| Myers was definitely a plus. Good to know he can do a job if we lose Gill or Arundal. Gill didn't get particularly great service - like I said above in the first half when we moved the ball wide Patton seemed to pass the ball without engaging a defender which gave his outside runners no space. I think the main reason he didn't shine was that our play the ball was really slow so that meant by the time he got the ball the Batley defence was on him. That was partly down to the ref allowing a 6/7 second PTB and also our dummy half passing was awful at times with the ball going above the head of the first receiver.
DFJ looked well out of form. He looked dodgy under the kick and in attack he hardly ever beat the first man. He almost seems to seek out defenders to tackle him. Perhaps that's down to a lack of game time. I'd consider Jowitt on the wing given he's better under the high kick, his versatility makes him a good option in the 17 though so I'd expect to see him sharing the hooker spot or providing cover at halfback or fullback.

| What we were missing Sunday was an on field general, we are not a bad team, just a badly organised team. We looked better when Lawrence was fit and he led from the front but... past his best and injured.. Walker i am still not sure he will survive the season once back on the field.. injury prone and if he does survive will use us to springboard his career elsewhere.. We need a Penguin and fast.

| Grade D and two game ban for Meadows. Charged with a full head butt on the floor. Doesn't help us though.
Don't think the ref could have got it more wrong. Instead of a red card to Batley he gave them the penalty plus sin-binned our player even though no punches throw.
C'est La vie.

One of the worst cases of reffing I’ve seen since Ganson gave the Tansey try against us in the Millennium Magic?
