Quote: Pumpetypump "Given what you say about not hearing it, and the club being unaware, it must have been a small isolated case we would hope.
It does make me feel sad that our club has had negative press over something so stupid. I know I run the risk of being labelled a woke liberal, but I am genuinely baffled as to why anyone would even care, much less shout abuse, about someone's sexuality. I believe James Child is in a longstanding relationship, and there's precious little happiness in the world so bloody good luck to him. Maybe the chant should have been "I don't see why you should get any joy out of life, because I don't".
Anyway this article and what I witnessed against Whitehaven does beg the question of whether our stewards are "neither use nor ornament" as my mum would say. They struggled to get to grips with the flare incident, and reading this article they seemed oblivious to the homophobia and what to do about it.'"
I wasn't at the game but when it originally got reported it was reported as a comment (I'd imagine one or two idiots shouting it as he walked down the tunnel)
Sometimes the RFL don't help though, a £1000 fine and a move on would have been acceptable when you look at the fines some teams of got for racist chanting and crowd violence. The agreed "punishment" just adds fuel to the hysteria.
