| Quote Ferocious Aardvark="Ferocious Aardvark"Just wondering how you would view his credibility if he'd signed a new lease committing the club to paying half a million a year in rent and maintenance for the foreseeable?'"
For the avoidance of doubt, he's never had any in my book, I was being generous in my previous post.
Since you've asked the question, it would just make him as stupid as our previous owners who presumably agreed to the same.

Especially when you consider the impact it’s bound to have on season ticket sales.

| Well, it's a shame you prefer hyperbole to discussion, but hey. I know this is the internet where hyperbole is king, but to say he" never had credibility" does seem to dismiss without a thought his rescuing of a dead-in-the-water club, assembling a decent squad with a fine coach, getting promotion and ending first year in the Championship just shy of the playoffs. He had no choice but either to take the existing arrangements "as was" when he took over, or walk away, but how does any of the above, or refusing to renew a clearly unaffordable arrangement, mean he has "no credibility"? Genuine question. On what are you basing your dismissive "he's never had any in my book"?

As I see it, the RFL will lose the profit they gain from us but still be responsible for paying the "peppercorn" rent to the council. Maintenance will be minimal since there will be no one using the ground and no safety certificate to keep up to, so in the short term it will be virtually nothing. I'm sure they and the council will have come to some arrangement before the stands fall down.

| Maintenance is minimal only if you condemn the ground and let it fall into disrepair. That is NOT preserving the iconic Odsal for the game much, is it? Letting it go to rack and ruin such that nobody could possibly play rugby there?
It is also self-fulfilling - stop the maintenance, it soon becomes not maintenance but major works.

| I dare say they could smash up and remove parts of the old girl quite easily and cheaply. The portacabin bar (I forget what it's called these days) at the corner for example. I'm sure none of us would laugh heartily if it turned out to be made of asbestos and cost a fortune.

From another forum - [urlhttps://www.totalrl.com/forums/index.php?/topic/344056-whats-going-on-at-odsal/&do=findComment&comment=4171765[/url This sums up my thoughts on Chalmers- Genuine apologies for in this instance resorting to hyperbole - I just couldn't be bothered repeating myself (My issue, not yours of course)
He has chosen to walk away from a rubbish deal, yep that makes sense, I don't think anyone's arguing that. (I'll admit, I was a little confused by your first reply today, for the avoidance of doubt I'm not saying we should stay at Odsal..!). It's the whole "New Stadium coming in two years, or is it four, actually look over there, we're making a push for Super League, please buy a season ticket" without anything solid to back one iota of that up. Surely given the past decade the fans deseve some honesty if a decision of this magnitude is made.
Considering how lightning quick Chalmers is to knock anyone who has a go at him (usually SL chairmen), his silence since Friday night's statement is quite deafening.

I’d question the sanity of anyone that sides with the RFL in most arguments... especially in this one. Chalmers is against a rock and a hard place with regards the stadium, and he’s taken the only sensible decision he could.
The statement by the RfL is petty, inconsistent and driven by short term self interest. But given the track record of the people running this sport, why would we expect anything else.

| It amazes me that people seem to slag the RFL off all year every year - except when they are in dispute with us.

I am slightly incredulous too. The RFL are widely perceived as inept but not a single probing question is ever asked of the murky involvement the RFL have had in every Bradford administration and with Odsal. Not from fans and, worse, not from Journalists.
Even those willing to dish out blame to the RFL make out they are amiable buffoons, who have just been trying to help Bradford but inadvertently made things worse. I'm loathe to be a conspiracy theorist but that's not ringing true any more imo.

| The post was basically about what effect the club leaving Odsal would have on the RFL.
Largely based on the idea that the ground, according to our chairman, is uneconomic and no-one other than romantics think it is in anyway likely to be financially capable of sustainably hosting rugby matches again. Unless, of course, someone, presumably with commercial interests, comes up with cash to finance a rebuild/renovation. Then, naturally, all bets are off, but we've been waiting a long time already for that dream.
