Mario Fenech is a blast from the past. A legend at South Sydney, came over here to clear an 8 game suspension. Basically had a holiday. The result was they changed the rules so players suspended in one league can't suddenly turn up and play in another.
Basil Ake was another good un. Signed from New Zealand rugby union. Had basically no ability at all. Soon binned off and never heard of again.
I actually thought Solomona was good for us in 2007. He won us a few games on his own. That said he'd always been one of those free spirits that did his own thing and had a leisurely approach to training. It showed later when his wasteline expanded and his ability diminished.'"
Agree with that about Solomona. He was a cracking player, who could create something from nothing, and put his body on the line to squeeze in for some really good, and tough, tries. In the right team he could be the icing on the cake of a super team. We were far from super, though and he was a square peg in a round hole at Odsal. We needed a solid grafter who could slog it out and do the hard yards in the middle of the field and instead we got a prima donna. Difficult to blame the player though, he never changed his style, far more blame is attached to the person who signed him, IMHO.
