I think it would be easier to sell it to the fans as a backs to the wall battle against relegation, rather than a drab battle to finish 6th. Why would anyone turn up to watch that?

Might be easier to sell to fans by painting it like that, but anyone with basic maths skills or a calculator, and the ability to look up last year's league table, could realise it still shouldn't be anything like.

They'd be better off selling it as "If Leigh had lost 12 points last season, they'd have still made the top 4 and still been promoted. With improvement under our new innovative coach, we can still do it this season".

As much as the pessimistic among us won't believe it can happen, Top 4 is actually more believable than relegation IMO.
