I've always thought that Sheffield were a club the RFL really should have been pushing when we had licencing. It's a big city with a rugby league history. It's off the M62 corridor but close enough that fans would actually travel (unlike London or Catalans). If they were serious about proper, measured expansion, I always thought Sheffield was the way to go. A strong Sheffield team would be good for the game in this country. Here's to hoping they get something sorted.

Sheffield were screwed over by an investor who promised the funds to enable them to go full time and then ditched them right at the start of the season.

It seems like Sheffied were banking on finishing in the top 4 again this season and the relevant prize money which would go a long way to paying the wages for next season. I think the main problem though is the investor pulling out, you obviously can't bank on the team doing well and planning so far in advance, as I'm sure Marc Green is finding out now

The problem with that us, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you only spend on the assumption you might not make the playoffs, you're likely to be ensuring exactly that. You have to set your stall out, and go for it. IMHO.
