Quote: David Tasker "This is where the mess started in my opinion. no investment to keep us in super league and added with the mismanagement of Ferres and Hunter Paul we only have ourselves to blame. '"
Not sure what Green could have really done to keep us in Super League as he'd taken over after the season started, we’d been hammered by a points deduction and there were hardly many candidates for players to bring in to turn it round. The writing was on the wall before the ink was dry on his paperwork to take over.
I will agree that he has been badly misguided on some aspects – the willingness was there, I don’t think he’s exactly penny pinched but he’s hardly splashed the cash either. That for me started with the appointment of Lowes. When Cummins got the boot, morale was fantastically low (something we now describe as the status quo). There were strong rumours of Noble coming back at the time – as I guess there always will be – but for me Jimmy was Nobby on a budget. A hark back to the good old days to get the feel good factor back. Now whoever advised Green that Lowes was a good appointment – to me did seem like a bit of a “jobs for the boys” move – started a snowball of bad decisions as we were told recently that recruitment was then a three way decision process between Green, Ferres and Lowes. I think we’re pretty much agreed recruitment was poor and lead us to this position. To me, I don’t think Green was out scouting the Aussie reserve grade, so we have to assume Ferres and Lowes brought the players to Green’s attention and he’d rubber stamp them. That’s the willingness, but he’s rubber stamped the wrong stuff and been left with no margin for error. I don’t think it’s a lack of “investment” – it’s a lack of investment in the right thing. A hard act to balance, I’ll admit.
What the club need to do now, is let people know what is going on. To read that article that AOB and the players don’t know what’s happening in 2017 is a tad disgraceful. We can’t move forward from one of the most disastrous results in the history of the club because Green is on holiday! Fine, well Ferres is still there, and I’m not suggesting the club isn’t working non stop behind the scenes, but there has been not an official word from the Bulls at all since the final hooter on Sunday. Even a placeholder of “We’ll announce something later this week” would be preferable to this silence. A huge slice of honesty is needed right now, I’ve always thought of Green as a particularly honest bloke and it’s nothing less than the fans deserve after this shambles of a season.
