You may well be right FA. I do remember him at the Shay too, I have a feeling he played for Cleckheaton RU and then came back to Fax later in his career and that's maybe what I'm remembering.

Thrum Hall was bleeding tropical compared with Odsal.

Odsal has its own microclimate that is certainly true and could be cold enough for anyone to be fair but, talking of plain, simple, perishing cold, to compare it with those frozen arctic environments stuck on the side of the hill [either Watersheddings or Thrum Hall], in the words of the famous oracle John McEnroe - "you cannot be serious"!

It wasn't, of course, not being up a mountain an' all, but the thing is once you got in to Thrum Hall, you could find the shelter of a roof and as long as you stayed put, you had some protection from the elements. Whereas the wide open terraces of the Odsal bowl are not a fun place to be when there's an icy wind ripping hail or snow around.

Good job we have summer rugby now - even if it does start in the winter!
