Quote: cieranblonde "That's nonsense. Jamie's contract blatantly doesn't offer value for money in it's current state in a similar way to Platty. If we could keep both and still improve the overall squad that would be great but I imagine that on the current wages it's financially impossible. From their pov, if I had been offered the same role in my work for half the pay I'd be moving on fairly sharpish too. I'll be gutted to see him go but not as gutted as I was to see Beaver go to Catalans and continue being the best player in the league, just somewhere else. Jamie has never lived up to being "the next Andy Farrell". He's not a touch on the top Loose Forwards in the league and he hasn't really made a great transition up through the pack. He's a solid player but nothing more. There really is no place for sentiment towards the squad. I'm far happier at retaining Donno and Addy than if they had both gone and we had kept Langley for "sentimental value". Let the new signings continue!'"
You may dismiss it as nonsense, but I know I'm not the only one who feels like that.
There's a difference between sentiment and loyalty.
People keep banging on about not keeping him for sentiment, but its not as though he's a terrible player, and his bad spell with injuries seems to have passed. I genuinely think we'll miss him and I think that he will go on to have a few more decent seasons.
I'm very happy with retaining those two as well. They still have a lot to learn though and a gf & wcc winning player should have plenty to pass on.
