Quote: Ferocious Aardvark "Doesn't really matter why, does it, we're only going to get half the money of everyone else for two seasons and that is that. I suppose you could say that, overall, in a very complex set of goings on between the RFL, Sl, administrator, SL clubs and chairmen etc etc the RFL obviously thought that taking everything they had learned into consideration (which will obviously be 100 times more than we mere observers know) this is what they would require, and since OKB [iare[/i the new owners, they equally obviously agreed to take this "medicine".
So i am not having a go, but any navel-gazing as to whether this or that woulda coulda shoulda or fairness etc is surely irrelevant; we are where we are, OKB agreed what they agreed, and are getting on with it.
It may be a total outrage, or it may be the fairest thing ever, I don't care any more, it is what it is.
All I will say is it is yet another poke in the eye to our many trolls and critics who accused OKB of effectively not paying enough, it has cost and will cost them plenty. The only question to me though is what will the RFL do with that "windfall". Don't think anybody has commented.'"
I have gone on record as saying the only possible justification I could see for massive fines on this scale would be to pay off creditors, maybe to keep Sport England off the RFL's back after yet another loss to HMRC. Whether this is part of the plan I have no idea, nor do I know how in practice it could be effected within the insolvency legislation. But I cannot see any other possible justification for putting the new owners at such a huge disadvantage compared to the rest of the competition? Unless it is all politics, and is a warning to any other club owners about what will happen if they put THEIR club into administration, but (unlike the end result at Bulls) then tried to buy the assets off the adminstrator and come back as a phoenix afetr a pre-pack? But I can only speculate, since I cannot understand why the RFL would at once allow OKB to take over the Licence AND at the same time do their best to ensure the club will struggle to meet the conditions for having a Licence.
