Quote: tigertot "It certainly will. Unless Galloway cocks up big time in the interim I would expect Respect to do well. Liberals will be decimated, though I don't know how many of their councillors are up. Sunderland, Lib leader, lost her deposit in Bfd West. I can't see many Tories voting for Respect, unless they were those who might have voted on family lines rather than political views previously. Which leaves dischuffed Labour voters, who are many, or those who have not voted previously.'"
It will be interesting to see how Respect do in the local council elections. I would imagine they will prove popular in many wards. Sunderland will be fine though in her backyard of Idle & Thackley. It's been mentioned that Mr Galloway may struggle to retain his seat in 2 years with the introduction of Shipley and Queenbury into the boundary which is a very good point. Mr Galloway is not stupid.
Do many people realise that we are also having a mayoral referendum for Bradford on the same day as the council elections ? I predict Mr Galloway's choosing of Bradford West for his return to politics is part of larger game plan which would fit very nicely with him "honourably" giving up his Bradford West seat and taking on a far more influential role.
As metioned, whatever he is, he is not stupid.
